Ottawa Senators Will Tender All RFA's Except Craig Schira

Joy Lindsay‏@PSBJoyOnTheSens

The #Sens plan to retain the rights to all restricted free agents except Craig Schira, have sent "bona fide" offers to most. #BSens

She later described that includes retaining the rights to Filatov.

The list of everyone where rights will be retained are

Nick Foligno
Jim O'Brien
Kaspars Daugavins
Erik Karlsson
Da Costa
Nikita Filatov

Previously as an organization we have let some guys go a little early ala Bass.

Maybe just qualifying him to prevent offer sheets?

It was sacrcasm. People can still have offer sheets sent to him but by sending a qualifying offer, they do not automatically become UFA's

A little surprised about Daugavins although he had a decent yr, he was scratched for a number of games in the post season. I would imagine he will get another two-way contract, good team guy.

I wonder if the offer for Karlsson was the minimum "We're just sending this to you to qualify you, don't take it seriously", or a real offer.

The only thing a QO does is that it retains the team's rights to the player. The player can still receive an offer sheet from another team and the original team may match or get compensation in the form of draft pick(s) if they don't match the offer sheet. If they don't give a RFA player a QO he becomes a UFA with no compensation rights. A club or player electing to go to salary arbitration prohibits any other team from of giving the player an offer sheet. FYI, Karlsson is not eligible for salary arbitration.

Bass? We let him go because he wasn't going to crack the NHL team.

Bass wanted to be let go to pursue opportunities outside of the Sens organization, he had little to no chance with the Sens.

Murray has be very classy in how he handles players he feels don't have a long term role with the organization.

I hate when players do that and don't get a chance with the new organization though. Like Ryan Keller leaving Binghamton last season to go and spend the whole year in OKC. Sure he gets to play for another Calder Cup now, but it would've been nice to have him back in Bingo most likely.

It's just the AHL Journeymen Mentality.

If you're Corey Locke, your goal is to play well enough to get a handful of games in the NHL. If not, you move to another organization and try and find one that will give it to you.

That's why people like Giroux, Locke, Hamel, etc, bounce around a lot.
