Its been a long, long time since a decent Musketeers movie came out with Charlie Sheen. After that the adaptions went downhill and fast. I don't know why Hollywood has insisted on these crappy remakes of the film. It seems they don't know what to do with the book.

Paul Anderson being tapped to direct is a pretty poor start.

Comes down to perspective

The Sheen/Sutherland/Pratt/O'Donnel while not being bad, was far from the best retelling of the story and that is the problem.

There have been a total of 30 Musketeer films (based upon the different books) and I have seen most of them (including many of the one from the Silent era)

I am also a huge fan of the books and it annoys me that most retellings start only with the first one.

For me the best movies were from, the 70's, starring Michael York, Charlton Heston, Raquel Welch, Oliver Reed, Frank Finlay, Richard Chamberlain, and Spike Milligan

Have you read the books? The Books Dumas wrote are great fun

I think the PS Anderson version was a good attempt at a reboot of the books

The '70s version was a lot of fun and still is, for that matter. It was directed by Richard Lester, who also directed A Hard Day's Night and Help. Same insouciant style.

I have read Dumas' books and think the 70's movies were far closer to the book in spirit then any other move

Ive never really gotten into these movies, Im not so sure outside of Johnny Depp's comic performance in The Pirates of the Caribbean movies that their really is much of a demand or audience for a swashbuckling movies these days.

I think the best one is The Man in the Iron Mask with Leo DiCaprio.

It does seem like an obvious thing that alot of people could do a great job of while cashing in on mass appeal.
