Anyone can see that they were forced into certain roles from the very beginning.

Britta improved in the later seasons, IMO.

Agreed.
Britta was 'cooler' at the start of the series, but having what seems like her first group of real long term friends it only makes sense that she'd get called out on the BS that used to make her seem cool. Subsequently it makes her look dumb or weird some times, but it works.

On one hand I'm really excited because Community at its peak is the perfect TV show....

....on the other I'm a bit nervous because it's being made by the writers for Happy Endings I believe, a sitcom I stopped watching part way through the 3rd season because of how annoying the characters got and the fact that it just wasn't very funny overall minus a few moments here and there. It's a really frustrating show. I know the characters in Community are over the top already but they still have this likability to them. Happy Endings is the type of show where the characters have a conflict in each episode then kiss & make-up at the end. Plus the wit from the past few seasons is hard to match for any show let alone Happy Endings where it seems forced.

It'll probably end up being somewhere in-between where it was before and the mediocrity that is Happy Endings.

For me, and I love the show, it really has no where to go but up. So I am not that concerned with a new regime. I really did not care for the direction the show went last season at all. I found it less and less funny. (for my tastes) If it sucks, which could happen, well then I am glad it will be ending.

I did not know that about the Happy ending writers being onboard. Happy Endings is a very specific type comedy. Which I can see people either loving or hating. It is a totally farcical show. With rapid fire delivery, and very specific, strongly defined characters. Non stops gags and bits. Very strong on word play. I think the writers are smart enough to write in various styles. I don't think they would for a second try to apply the same style to another show. Different shows, different directions. ESPECIALLY with an established show and established characters such as Community.

The previews look worse than expected. It's one thing to tame it down and turn it into a lighter, less ambitious comedy (which season 3 actually could have used a bit of), but my first impression is that it seems like they tried to go weirder and more self-indulgent and "aren't we clever?" about it without much actual cleverness-- sort of like what people complained about in season 3 without any of the humor and packed with extra annoyingness and desperation to appeal to geekiness or something.

Just an initial impression/feeling, before anyone rolls their eyes at not giving it a chance.

I agree. Parody of itself, came to mind. I hope I am wrong. But as I mentioned a couple of posts ago, it could really suck, and if it does, I am glad it will be ending. But hopefully the over the top parts are just that and there is some actual meat to it.

Looks great. And looks like they may have just said **** it, let's just have fun with it and do it big in every episode. Wouldn't mind that.

Theres an increasingly good chance that Community will be back for at least another year. Without The Voice, NBC's comedies (exception: Parks & Rec) have been in free-fall mode as far as ratings.

Every time I read something about the first 2 episodes of S4 a little piece of me dies inside.

Really, really tempering my expectations.

I think at this point it isn't about "will the show still be good with Dan Harmon gone and Chevy's bizarre deptarture + new writers?", it is now "will this show still be any good?"

The only good NBC sitcom I see after this season ends is Go On and Parks & Rec. They're lucky that 30 Rock and The Office had such long and fairly consistent runs. If these morons cancel Community after this season while continuing to air Whitney, Guys With Kids, Up All Night, and their other BS then they deserve to have their ratings go downhill.

Even Fox has better sitcoms.
