USHL Entry Draft

Not a lot of talk about the USHL Entry Draft yesterday (unless I somehow missed it). Tony Calderone went first to Sioux Falls.

Full list of those drafted is available off the USHL website:
http://ushl.rinknetcloud.com/draft10.htm

It gets interesting when you consider some of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft eligible talent that was selected.

Quote:
This year’s first round saw NHL Draft eligible players Adam Gilmour (second overall, Muskegon), MacKenzie MacEachern (fourth, Chicago), Chris Calnan (10th, Waterloo), Mark Jankowski (11th, Dubuque), and Peter Quenneville (13th, Dubuque) all selected.
Full analysis from Andrew Weiss here:
http://futureconsiderations.ca/ushl-...s-entry-draft/

Do we have a lot of USHL-based posters here? Thoughts on your team's selections? Lots of interesting happenings at the draft, for sure.

I'm not a USHL guy, but I'm a St. Cloud State guy. We had two of our recruits drafted. Judd Peterson from Duluth Marshall was taken 16th overall. He was left off the CSB lists but has been compared favorably to Jack Connolly, so I'm hoping an NHL team decides to do what the Cedar Rapids Roughriders did and draft him.

The other recruit drafted was dman Kyle Mitsunaga from LA Selects U16 at 108th overall... also by Cedar Rapids. That's nice for me, fewer teams to have to pay attention to.

Chris Dilks did a nice write-up here...

Some names stuck out for me fairly late in the draft:
Teemu Kivihalme - Finish playing high school hockey in Minnesota and his father doesn't seem to be a hockey player... It took me a minute to process that one lol I know nothing of his playing ability just his name literally stuck out.
Daniel Lafontaine- Pat's son
Mac MacSorley- Is this Marty's son?
Duncan MacIntyre- Top prospect for the Q draft, invited to USA National Development program. Interesting to see which route he'll go.
Charles Guevremont- I really think he could end up in the USHL. He's an education driven kid, could have played Q last season but decided to stay in Midget. The only reason I could see him going the Q route is because the team that holds his rights just had a player nominated for Scholastic player of the year for the entire CHL which has to interest Guevremont.

Connor Hurley from Edina is a total stud. He's just electric every time he's on the ice. Really fun to watch.

Can someone explain to me why so many teams pass in the mid rounds, and then all of a sudden start picking again in round 15. There has to be a specific reason for this.

At the beginning of the 2012-13 season, each USHL team may have 23 players on their active roster. These are the actual players on the team who will play in the games. The teams that haven't met that 23 man roster will draft until they do while if the other teams have 23 already they will "pass".
Once every team has acquired their 23 players, the draft continues until every team has 30 on their roster.

His dad did play in the SM-liga. Teemu has dual US-Finnish citizenship too.

I personally love what Green Bay did. Gives them a good bridge for their tenders to develop with a couple college kids who will pay huge dividends.

Although 97's were too young to be drafted in the futures draft, they were allowed to be drafted in the regular draft which makes zero sense but whatever. here's the 3 that were drafted...

89. Indiana Askew, Cameron C Boston, MA May 13/97 6.00.25 168 St. Sebastian's HS
131 Dubuque Hanifin, Noah D Norwood, MA Jan 25/97 6.03 185 St. Sebastian's HS
274 Chicago Dello, Tory RD Feb 14/97 6.00 150 Chicago Mission Major Bantam

I run a blog devoted to the Lincoln Stars, the team that drafted Guevremont, and I received an email yesterday from someone close to Charles who said he is very interested in playing USHL hockey. We'll see. Not sure if it was just talk.

Have you had an opportunity to watch him live? If so, your opinions on his game?
