This is weird, I never heard about this or even knew who the hell those teams were. I guess it was from some reality show, and the jury is still out on whether it was real or not. I get the feeling Hartley wouldn't fake something like this, and it kinda fits his personality anyway. Sounds like Brisebois was being a little ***** overstepping his bounds, and Hartley stuck up for his players and checked him.
I found a few sites talking about it.
Quote:
So the captain of the Nordiques, who's a big guy went after a Montreal player who's "5"8" and that got Brisebois (who's assistant coach to Carbo for MTL) real pissed.
We hear him say that he'll wait up for the Quebec City players near the dressing room and when they come back they talk a little trash and Hartley gets furious at brisebois for talking to his players so he gets in a real verbal feud with Brisebois and they had to be separated.
Incredibly detail-oriented coach, who always looks to get the upper hand of matchups.
Story I read was from a guy who coached in the AHL against Hartley. Hershey was away and had a defensive faceoff. Not liking the matchup, Hartley sent out his top faceoff guy to win the draws and then the team would immediately ice it. This continued until the opposing coach relented and changed lines, yielding the matchups to Hartley for the rest of the game.

That was from a Reality Show called Montréal vs Québec , a couple of years ago , where Players , some EX Q league and AHL exp , others with no exp in "pro " Hockey were in this reality show . As for the language it's Pure French Canadian with a lot of cursing . let just say that Brisebois got owned by Hartley each time. To a point that at the end you were feeling sorry for Brisebois. oh and Carboneau was badly out-coach by Hartley
Always have been, always will be a huge fan of Hartley. His weekly radio segment with Mike and Sandy was the best coach's show in any sport on any medium in the state of Colorado. I also absolutely loved his exchanges with Andy Murray.
I get concerned he might be a little too "old school" for the NHL these days (he has no problem with gooning it up) but I think the guy's a brilliant NHL hockey mind and will adjust.

Exactly. This is what I was getting at earlier. Guys like him and Hitch are still young enough, and too smart not to adjust. They just need a chance to prove it.
I just wish the Avs would forgo their obsession with young unproven coaches they can mold into the offensive style that PL tries to get them to use their first couple years, until they realize it won't work.
This team needs a smart veteran detail oriented coach like Hartley to get them over that hump to being more consistent and have less holes in their game, and mental breakdowns.
Still cant believe PL axed him after a slow start that season. I think he got fired with a winning record? Not like hartley told Tanguay to play like crap.

During this stuff, Hartley said "don't talk to my players".
Brisebois said:"who are you, what have you done, you can't even find a job".
Then Hartley said:"i'm not the one crapping my pants when I go near the boards".

The whole thing was awesome, funny and stupid.
Haha that's awesome. Anyone familiar with Brisebois while he was with the Avs loves that comment.
Brisebois' an idiot. What does he mean what have you done? He's only one of the more succsessful coaches around these days. He took Laval to the Memorial cup (though they didn't win) won a Calder Cup with Hershey, and a Stanley Cup with the Avs.
I don't know about his decision to coach the Flames though. They're on the brink of a rebuild and he'll just be in an Atlanta situation again, where he's not at his best with young players. He should have taken the Montreal job if they did indeed offer it to him.

As Sandy Clough accurately pointed out, Pierre Lacroix's mindset at the time can be summed up in two words that ended up being an epitaph on that season: PURSUING HISTORY. Lacroix was dead-set to chase a record no one gave a damn about, and Hartley paid the price. It didn't help that both Tanguay and Forsberg clearly didn't get along with the guy.
Hartley is a winner, and I still think he was the best coach the Avs ever had. Very hard nosed and tough on his players though. He will either do great with Calgary or will bust hard. There are some big egos on that team that might not take well to his 'style' of coaching.
