Frankly, I think Cousins' future lies at wing; with any luck it'll be on the wing of Laughton in 2-3 years:
It basically has to be imo. Nick is probably a Phantom next season and given a shot at cracking the roster in 2014-2015 and that's probably the same time frame that you'll see for Laughton as well.
Nick Cousins is an excellent glue player and a solid find in a third round. I can definitely see him translating to a 5-60 point 3rd winger who agitates, forechecks, and makes opponents work. You win with players like that.
Scott Hartnell - Claude Giroux - Jakub Voracek
Brayden Schenn - Sean Couturier - Matt Read
Eric Wellwood - Scott Laughton - Wayne Simmonds
Nick Cousins - Ben Holmstrom - Zac Rinaldo

F'rgot a li'l someone.
Damnit, I knew I was forgetting someone. Matt Read has a relatively non-existent cap hit, a mid-range production potential, and easily the most forgettable name in hockey.
Hovinen started for the Titans yesterday. He allowed 5 goals on 29 shots. Four of the goals were powerplay goals.
Still not convinced the Hovinen is going to be a player at the NHL level. For all the hype that surrounds him, he still has several huge flaws in his game. Why they didn't sign Eriksson is beyond me, especially when you consider that Eriksson has been an excellent goalie at every level he's played at. Hovinen has had two good seasons throughout his career, yet for some reason, he's continually hyped as the future. If he's the future, then the future isn't too bright........

I did say a while back that we would probably regret not hanging on to Sunshine.
Well, this sucks. Hopefully he gets his act together, since I have to say I've been and still am pretty high on him, as well. Ugh, I don't give a flying **** about the ECHL, but now that I want him to prove these two games weren't what we're in store for, I've never been more excited about the season start as I am now.
edit: Oh, and what's the deal on his assignment to ECHL anyway? Are they just having him adjust to the smaller ice, or is this seen as permanent until he improves?

They left Hovinen behind in Voorhees to get him more playing time, the Titans had a game there last night...allowing Heeter to start in Albany, and then Heeter is starting with the Titans tonight in Reading, so they each get to maximize there starts going into the season. Heeter's got a 2-1 lead so far.

Titans defense didn't help him out a whole lot, though they didn't start many of their main players. But Hovinen's side to side movement wasn't impressive. He's definitely not used to the rink size and speed adjustment over here.
To those that have seen (any of) the first two games, how has Sentyurin looked?
He only played one of the three games and I heard he didnt look to bad. Played on the pp and was credited with the goal but given to Johnston in the end.
There are too many players trying to make the squad so the chances of him making it are slim sadly.

Ah, OK, thanks. I thought he played, as well, though. He was listed as being in the lineup on the Flyers website, at least.

Well, that blows, but I can see that being the case if he hasn't absolutely overwhelmed the coaching staff with his play during the preseason try-out.
Phantoms lost their last preseason game 3-1. Schenn scored on the PP with assists from Couturier and Gustafsson. From what i understand Schenn was the best player on the ice and almost had a couple more points.
Nick cousins now has 11pts in 6 games.
and in case anyone is interested Joacim Eriksson is off to a hot start with a .937 save percentage and a 1.47 GAA through 6 games played. He finished last season pretty strong with a .935 save percentage and a 1.73 GAA in 33 games.
Schenn's Goal:

Talked to some people who watched Laughton a few times the past couple games. Seems like Laughton has struggled out of the gate a bit. Offense hasnt really continued from the end of last season, and defensively has been getting beat 1v1 quite a bit. Just recently he got crossed up and scored on by Conner McDavid. Conner is considered a generational talent but still for a 15 yr old rookie to cross up a 18 yr old two way center is kinda disheartening.
Anywho, it looks like a lot of ohlers are getting off to slow starts. Laughton is sadly playing second fiddle to a high scoring first line and is probably asked to do more grunt work than rack up pts....something he should get accustomed to in his career.
Looking back on that draft, i think the player that laughton will most be compared to is Gaunce. They both have similar games and play the same position. Gaunce has gotten off to a nice start this year so we will see what happens.
Either way, Laughton will never be able to be a top 6 forward on this team and I think the flyers are ok with that.
