Leafs sign Petter Granberg to a three-year entry level contract

As their twitter says, but they also added a t to the end of contract. I did not.

Are we at the 50 player limit? If so how are we suppose to resign some of our other young players? What young players have we yet to resign?

Hello NHL, meet the next Lidstrom.

j/k.. I'd be happy if he turned out to be as good as Gunner.

The contract is in effect for next season, not right now.

At the same age Granberg is quite a bit ahead of Gunnar.

Interesting prospect though.

I dont understand either, people think that leafs management will sign a 4th round pick if they are worried it will block some sort of important signing?

Nope, thats a legit reason to worry, this stuff is largely unimportant, contracts are traded all the time.

Because I thought it would put us up to the 50 player limit and then we would not be able to re sign some of our other young players before the draft comes and since some of our young guys have not been resigned since they were drafted 2 years ago, they would re enter the draft and we would lose them.

Anyways, does anyone know which prospects we have not yet resigned?

Burke will sign who he likes. If he wants to sign someone and hes at the contract limit, he'll trade someone in a minor deal.

Its not like Burke would let Parise slip through his fingers because of the contract limit.

Not an expert on Granberg, or when Swedes usually come over, but looking over the Marlies D core right now I would speculate he has a good chance.

Holzer - RFA - ready to graduate
Fraser - RFA
Gardiner - will graduate
Blacker - under contract, best bet on being a Marlie
Gysbers - RFA
Mikus - RFA
Lashoff - UFA

I am not saying that, I just explained what I meant. I thought signing Petter Granberg would put us up to the 50 player limit, but we still have prospects to resign, guys like Olden I think, so I thought now we won't be able to resign them because once draft day starts we automatically lose them if we have not resigned them yet, because they re enter the draft since we never signed them to a contract since we drafted them 2 years ago.

But someone mentioned that this contract does not take effect until next season so I think we have 49 players under contract for this past season so I guess we can still sign some of the prospects who we have not signed yet.

IIRC, his Swedish league coach had many good things to say about him. 19 years old and has "man strength".

Seems to be a big physical defenceman. I like it, anyone know which side he plays?

Leafs notoriously have been very lucky with Swedish born players, including the greatest Swede of them all Borje Salming. Who another great Swede Nik Lidstrom idolized as a player growing up.

So who still needs to be signed from the '09 draft? Olden, Brodin, and Nicholls?
