Excellent signing. Granberg has developed a lot this year. He played his best hockey of all season in the playoffs and he is almost impossible to pass in his own end. Big, extremely strong and seems to be getting better with the puck as well.

He was the best D in Skellefteå on their way to the SEL finals.

He probably will be a Holzer, Gunnarsson type of player. Very accountable, very few mistakes and could play a big role on the defensive side of a good team.

I'm not so sure we'll sign Olden or Brodin. Olden has been a pretty disappointing player since he was drafted. I know it's unpopular around here since he was apparently coveted by Detroit when we drafted him, but he's busting pretty bad so far. He might just be an ECHL-talent. I can definitely see him getting a Marlies' try-out and possibly a minor-league deal to prove he can play at the next level.

edit: As far as Granberg goes, good signing. He should be a solid stay-at-home d-man for the Marlies next year. But don't expect ANY offence from this guy. He probably has less offensive upside than Gunnar or Holzer. That's not a slight to him at all, just that Leaf fans shouldn't place unrealistic expectations on the kid. If he turns out to be an NHL player, he probably won't be hitting double-digits in points very often, but be a steady, solid presence and good for the PK.

he has been compared to gunnerson. granberg is more physical though. if all goes well. he will be a great part of future. plus he has a contract in place with sel, through 2012/2013. we need to be patient before we see him.

Always pleasing when a prospect impresses enough to get a chance.

Good luck to him.

We better sign all 3 of them or I am going to be pissed.

I ahouldn't let it concern you. I'd be amazed if any play an NHL game - ever. Just because you drafted them doesn't mean you have to sign them. No team signs everyone of their prospects.

Sure if there is a spare contract floating around give Nicholls a chance but the others, by all accounts haven't warranted a signing.

I'm very intrigued with Granberg and it sounds like he could be an intimidating presence in our lineup.

I love that we are building for the net out and have a plethora of good young quality defensemen!

So he's another Gold Medal winner like D'Amigo, right?

I hope we get Brodin signed. I know he's got about 4th line potential, but he's a role player and someone who could replace Mike Brown in the future. His team has been relegated to Allsvenskan so he'd be better served playing in the AHL anyways. Plus he plays a very North American style of game.

I still laugh that the Leafs ended up with Borje simply due to Ballard's staff wanting to spite him with a European.

I agree with the Brodin signing. The best way to improve your team is improve everywhere, if you got a youngster who plays better, let him fill that spot.

Would be nice if he was part of a homegrown shutdown pairing with Holzer. If his ceiling is like people say and he becomes a more physical Gunnar, I could see that being a good fit for our bottom pairing in the future.

Sounds like he'll spend another season in the SEL, which is probably the best thing for him. Took some big strides in his game down the stretch from everything I've read, so hopefully he can take a bigger role next season.

Is that a lot of the speculation?

It would be smarter for him to come to North America and get some more ice time and exposure to the game. Just my opinion.

Extra time in a familiar setting has never hurt a d-man's development before, so let's leave Granberg in the SEL where he can learn to be a smarter player and be part of a championship mentality team.

He's solid. Big young d-man who is great at shutting down opposing forwards. May not be the most offensively talented but he's still a solid, dependable d-man.
