It would be easy to just put Rolston, and Jurcina on the list because they were really bad or a guy like Jon Sim who just would not go away no matter how many times he was released.These guys we can call my dishonorable mentions.

Does anyone think that Nino is Sean Bergenheim all over again?
He would be a much bigger bust than Bergenheim if that is all he turned out to be, Bergenheim was drafted 22nd in what was a relatively weak draft in 2002...Nino was 5th overall, if he turns into Raffi Torres that would be a more comparable guy, he was 5th overall I think and has never scored over 20 goals.
The Islanders could use Sean Bergenheim back on this team.
I agree, Bergenheim really showed it was a mistake letting him go. I was a huge Bergenheim fan, never really understood the hate for the guy around here, and since he's left he has proven that he is a big game player in the playoffs.
There is no way to really say who is best/worst. So many players to consider. So many players bring different things to the table over the years.
Anyone who says Yashin or DiPietro is not being honest. They may dislike those players because of who/what they represent, but they are hardly the "worst players" to play for the Islanders.
Yashin put up points. One can't argue that. The problem was the terms of the contract. His point totals were not worth his deal. That does not mean he "sucked."
DiPietro's injuries will never to allow us to know for 100% certain if he could have helped to be a factor on this team. And those who know me here are all to aware of my feelings about DP. You all know how much I believe he was a mistake of a pick from day #1 and how much of a disaster he has been certainly over the past 4-5 seasons.
But to say he has zero ability or talent back in 2002, 2003, 2004 — that's not fair. His career is clearly over now, but to say he is the worst to play for the Islanders is narrow.

This. Yashin wasn't the superstar that his contract dictated-but he was a good player for us. He consistently lead in points, had good work ethic (yes I said it-just because you're slow doesn't mean you're lazy. And just because you're Russian doesn't mean you're going to be fast). His frustration was very obvious at times-and quite frankly with that contract he didn't need to give two flying you-know-whats. Oddly enough his last year before the buyout he put up good numbers-the timing was strange.
He became the scapegoat of this team. As Islander fans we ALWAYS have one (sometimes more than one). Whether it be a 4th liner in Hilbert, DP, injuries, coaching staff, wang, etc. The reality is, and has always been in the past ten years that this team just doesn't have the talent. Period.
If I remember correctly that was more of a broken play and LaFontaine just spun around and launched it... his role imo, was just being on the ice...
This. The only reason why he was credited with an assist is because his shot was block, after a wraparound. The rebound just happened to go right to Lafontaine. He also also tripped during the wraparound. Talk about dumb luck.
