Sather at deadline

In 1994 Neil Smith made some significant moves... I mean, Gartner for Anderson took some big ones. Amonte too.

IN HINDSIGHT, other than Nash deal what were some of the other moves Sather could have made to make this a stronger playoff team.

Bobby Ryan.

Almost everyone was clamoring about not disrupting the atmosphere, that Dubinsky will find his game, yadda, yadda.

When the Ducks were free falling, Sather should have inquired.

We could've used Greg Zanon. Unfortunately, teams like Colorado were too close to being in at that point to move someone like Jones. The deadline is too early.

Also, he should've focused on Jeff Carter, not Rick Nash.

Almost everyone I saw was including Dubinsky in the deals. It would have taken much more than Dubinsky to get Nash or Ryan.

I was fine with his non-moves then; I'm fine with them now.

Carter would've been huge for us. Not sure what it would've taken. Also could've really used another defenseman.

Zanon, Sarich.

Also wanted Ryan, but this was a pipedream.

That being said, we were two wins away from a stanley cup berth. You can't really be that critical of anything Sather did this year.

Well, do you have a legitimate source that says he did? We know he went after Nash and offered an abundant package, and I thank God Howson is trying to salvage his tenure and trying to wipe his slate clean in one move.

Outside of what a few wanted to see moved, who were the names thrown around by Sather?

Rangers general manager Glen Sather has been in touch with Ducks counterpart Bob Murray regarding the availability of 24-year-old power winger Bobby Ryan, The Post has learned.
It is unclear whether Sather is simply conducting due diligence regarding Ryan, who is being dangled by the skidding Ducks, or whether discussions have evolved beyond the tire-kicking stage.

I have a legitimate source, its called "Sather is a GM and like all GMs would, he inquired on every single players available and unavailable to see what the price is"... simply due diligence. I guarantee he was on the phone with the Ducks FO seeing if anything could even remotely work.

RL605's link works as well.

Ryan would have been nice but who knows what Ducks wanted.

I'm still scratching me head over John Scott deal. Will he be our enforcer next year? Probably not. Sather and Torts not on same page for this one.

Maybe they weren't serious because Murray was probably asking for the moon, which is a strong possibility and probably true.

I don't understand John Scott either. We gave up a 5th round pick for a guy that can't play and hasn't played. Hagelin was a 6th rounder, Lundqvist was a 7th rounder, Callahan was a 4th rounder. Ridiculous trade.

But we can say for a 100% fact that that was the case with Howson. The players, picks from the Rangers were provided. Sather was gunning for Nash.

With Ryan, we don't know if some dialogue was shared or if talks heated-up.

I still think there is a possibility of us getting Ryan because the Ducks do not have a shutdown, defensive defenseman.

Hey we have no idea what deals he said no too. I suspect at the end of the day we would be glad he said no ...

I'm sure all the GMs were asking for Krieder, McD, Hags etc..

I trust Sather the trader

I really thought they would look at a veteran defenseman. They went all in on Bickel either thinking a) Sauer was a possibility to come back or b) Eminger would get back to form. Neither happened. Not having 6 healthy reliable defenseman Torts' could count on really hurt in the playoffs.

Could make a case for this being the downfall imo...

Carter was the one player from Columbus that I would have wanted. Didn't happen though.

IIRC, rumors were that the Ducks wanted a d-man, center and pick.

Yeah. Carter. With that 5.5 million dollar contract till 2022.
Carter=Gaborik
If he does not score goals he does not do much else.
And he likes to party.

Tell me how you see that turning out in two or three years under Torts.

Brian Rolston. I got laughed out of convos and message boards for that suggestion but he was totally FREE and could have been had for nothing.

His shot on the PP maybe could have helped a little and he couldv'e been a 4th liner PP specialist.

Travis Moan was the other guy I wanted. No idea why Montreal didn't trade him.
