Only way that is going to happen is if next year they add some sort of puck possession game to their system. They can't keep on grinding 4 lines every year. That crap is going to catch up with you.

If Torts continues pounding away, eventually his players will turn on him.

Seems many are forgetting about him. Any updates on him, though?

****, he really would have helped tremendously in these playoffs.

If they're looking to upgrade the bottom 6 I'd move AA and Hagelin to the 3rd line. This way Boyle and Prust play 4th line minutes. Torrie Mitchell is a fast 4th line pk guy he'd fit in on that 4th line. I hate to beat a dead horse but Gaborik has to go. Enough of him. MDZ better smarten up his game, Stepan better hit the weights and practice face offs too, same goes for AA.

His PCS is pretty bad from what Cerny said a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't even attend the games due to the light and noise. If he comes back at any point next year, I'd be thrilled. Shame too because he's a great steady dman and a hell of a guy from the times I've met him. Class act.

Without Gaborik this team is playing on the road in game one and is probably out in the first round. The regular season is also important. If we get rid of Gaborik unless we replace 40 goals we're most likely a low seed next year. Trying to win it all on the road.

I hope management decided to make some tweaks to the roster and not go back into camp with the same team + youth coming up. That was good enough a couple years ago after not making the playoffs or first round exits. I think it's time to make a small push, move some players out, bring in some new faces, nothing seriously involving the core.

I still personally believe that trading Rupp ANYWHERE would be a great thing to do. He costs too much for a 4th liner at 1.5 million. Someone who needs to hit the cap floor, needs a vet for a young team would want him for a pick or something. I just don't see room for him on this team if Feds and Prust are brought back which I believe they both should be. Feds was a very good player in this series, stepped up his game. He's the bottom 6 Callahan for this team, do anything to win and can elevate his play when need be.

Sure, but it's not crazy to explore a trade including him if you can get a solid deal.

It's ridiculous that some want him gone no matter what, like suggesting a buyout, but it's not crazy to try and deal him if an offer is out there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Rangers need to revamp their bottom 6 next season, regardless if they acquire a top 6 forward or not.

It was painful to watch our 4th line matched up against the Devils' 4th line. They are just so slow and cannot win battles along the boards or races to the puck. Rupp does not need to play every game, he should be a spare forward at times.

Also, I was proponent of putting Anismov at 3rd line C and Boyle at 4th line C next season, but it is woefully apparent that neither of them can win faceoffs consistently, let alone win a clutch faceoff at a crucial time. The Rangers MUST find a bottom 6 center that can win faceoffs.

I too would try to trade Rupp. Our 4th line next year will be painfully slow with him and Boyle on it. We got owned by the Devils 4th line. We should not be paying someone 1.5 million when they play only 4-6 minutes a night.

I dont think we need to sign someone like Stoll or Kelly though. We have enough defensive minded forwards. Use the money to bring in an offensive forward like Ray Whitney.

I think the problem with Rupp was that:

a)He was never used where I thought he would have provided the most help: creating screens on the PP.

b)He was a redundant piece that could have easily been filled by a guy from the whale.

c)I don't think Torts liked him all that much. I think Rupp came into camp in poor condition. His attitude could also be an issue in thinking that this was a team he could collect a paycheck with limited minutes(speculation).

I think there is a good chance he may be gone next season.

Both are overpaid and both should be removed.

After sobering up and playing OOTP13 all night, i'm just reiterating how important it is to rebuild the bottom 6.

No John Mitchell's or Stu Bickel's as the extra forward. If we're not getting rid of Rupp, we should have him as the extra forward and sign somebody actually good to play with Boyle-Prust. I'm not sure what this years UFA class is, but if you can get somebody better than Pruster, that could also happen. Hell, even if we keep Feds, then we need to either sign two new guys to play with Arty as the 3C (or have MZA play with him on RW) or sign a Ray Whitney to push Hags to the 3rd line, OR pray Dubi's year was a fluke.

Kreider-Richards-Gaborik
X-Stepan-Cally
Hags-Arty-MZA/X
X-Boyle-Prust/X
Rupp

That's the framework i'm working with, ignoring any trades. We CAN'T have a bottom 6 of Feds-Boyle-Prust, Rupp-Mitchell-Bickell or something awful like that all season. I'm a huge proponent of having Arty and Hags play where they should be- that's a 3rd line that's not physical, but can bring offense and defense.

Also, I really hope Timmy Erixon is ready. We NEED a d-man, or else Danny G, Marc and McD are going to be dead by March again.

Doesn't really matter who you get to play with Boyle. He isn't going to provide any offense anyways.

I'm with you that Boyle is awful offensively, but our 4th line should be the physical, body banging PK specialists. Boyle's a great PKer, and as long as Tort's doesn't use Boyle as if he's a lockdown 5 on 5 center and give him tons of minutes against other top lines, he's fine.

See this is what I am getting at. Boyle is a terrible forechecker. I don't think he really works as a 4th liner either. Especially getting paid 1.7 million a year. He was used because he was usually our best face off man(even though he wasn't that great either).

Guy should be removed.

Prust can stay though. He can skate and hit at the very least.

A lot of talk about getting rid of Rupp..while I'm not opposed to it, I think he could be valuable for one game next season. As someone brought up in the "Girardi's bonehead play cost us the series" thread, we have one order of business to take care of...a physical beatdown of Dion Phaneuf..Rupp is the only roster player I see capable of delivering Sauer's revenge fight...after that we can trade Rupp or send him to the Whale..minor tweaks to the team

Kreider - Richards - Gaborik
Pack Line ( or trade/ufa - stepan - callahan if we decide to cut ties with Dubi which I am not ready to do)
MZA- Arty - Hagelin
Prust - Boyle - call up/trade/UFA

Rupp scored 3 very big goals this year so he did contribute. He played this season with a bad knee and bad hand. Management has to make the decision if he's finished or not.

4th line to me should be all about young cheap talent who could put the puck in the net here and there, but can also play against good players in the NHL. Create energy. That's what made the Betts/Sjostrom/Orr/etc. line so loved although overplayed.

Maybe Oscar Lindberg could provide that if they sign him. Maybe Andrew Yogan at some point next season.

In his pregame Torts stated some guys handled the ups and downs very well while others didn't, and that he had some concerns about that. Translation, anyone who didn't handle the downs very well is likely gone this summer. He'll have his say in who stays/goes and he'll base it on character more than skill set.

I totally agree on the bottom 6 needing to be retooled, see if we can't add a little mobility, the worst part about our bottom six is that they are pylons for the most part.

Third line is solid if everyone is healthy. Fedotenko goes and you replace him with someone younger and you have three solid lines. 4th line is a joke.

I don't care how much we like players like Prust, Rupp or Boyle. We need players with speed and toughness who can chip in 10 or so goals each. Can Boyle score 10? Sure, he'd be the one I'd least likely get rid of. However, I'd have no problem letting Prust or Rupp go and no problem trading Boyle.
