The Devils don't deserve to win really. Nobody here in NJ gives a shat about them.
It's amazing how the city rallies around the Pens, bandwagon or not, but I think for every 100 people you talk to in NJ maybe 1 cares somewhat about them. Definitely hard playing between the Flyers and Rangers and not in one particular city that can rally around the team. Makes it even harder when a mall fan base is stretched out over an entire state and not in a central location.
Agreed. I think it's the Cleveland effect. They are currently not relevant enough to earn my hate. As soon as they get good again I will probably hate them with the fire of 1000 suns
short reason why you are wrong: they are from New Jersey.
You should've just stopped there.
But I ask you: is it possible to hate the place and people of NJ as a group, and not simultaneously admit the Canadians and non-NJ-Americans on their roster are surely the coolest people in NJ at any given moment?

That's not really something to brag about and as long as they are representing NJ, they are New Jersey-ites in my eyes. I bet they fist-bump after they go tanning
It's the opposite here at the Shore. It's Devils, Devils, Devils everywhere you look.
Not many seem to be bandwagoners, either. From those I've talked to, they're pretty knowledgeable about things and seem to be genuine fans.
Really? I see nothing in Monmouth County. I live in Freehold and my in-laws are from Fair Haven and I spend a good bit of time in Red Bank and you might see one guy wearing a Devil shirt at a bar on any given winter night when the Devils are on the TV. When I lived in Long Branch for 2 years and went out to bars in the winter it seemed like anyone that cared about NHL games were Rangers fans. Completely opposite from Pittsburgh where it seems like 90% of the city is behind the team when they are going well.
I work in New Brunswick and you don't see anything around there. Mainly because it's college students and Hispanics I guess. I always just assumed the real following of Devils fans must be from Bergen, Essex, Passaic and Union counties although there are a lot of Rangers fans in that area as well. I figure as soon as you go south or west (Mercer) of Monmouth any NHL fans are Flyers fans.
Devils. I hated them less than the Rangers and there are way too many Flyers on the Kings to really pull for them since most Flyers fans consider them the LA Flyers. I like Scuderi, miss the hell out of his playoff heroics being a solid defensive defenseman, but I hope his team fails miserably in the Finals.
I'd also like to see Martin Brodeur cap off his hall of fame career with a Cup.
What?
I don't get how any Pens fan roots for NJ.
If NJ wins they surpass the Pens in cups won.
when I was a kid I owned a kings hat. Gretzky made me buy it. So I am going for the kings .... even though there are a few players on the devils who I would like to win a cup. Martin Brodeur would really look good with another cup against his name and Kovalchuk needs some respect and he would look good holding the cup.
But I hate Philly ..... and now I really want Richards and Carter to win the cup. I liked richards as a player even when he was on philly ... now as I have watched some kings games during the season and many in the playoffs I like him even more. Oh I really wanted the pens to trade for Brown and quick is the goalie we wish we had (someone with focus).
Overall if either team wins I will be happy for them. don't hate either of them.
I know we've agreed to disagree about this (more or less) and I really do respect your point of view ... but your hate for all things New Jersey makes me think of this ...
Are there really cookies on the dark side? Cuz' if they're really good cookies I might tell my son he's on his own and join you

That's cool, but I'm sick and tired of him coming around telling us who we should and shouldn't cheer for. He did it in the Caps~Rangers and then the NJ~Rangers series too.
Man these games are close. I'm not buying what the retards on NHL Network and NBC are talking about "series over". One bounce here or there and NJ is up 2-0. This could easily turn around. Not that I care a whole lot but I'm just sayin'... the only thing good on NHL Network is Katheryn Tappen-it. She has bodacious ta-tas. And she loves hockey without the whole puck bunny thing going. Win.
I find the thought of Ed Snyder sitting in his $500k home theater watching (through gritted teeth) Jeff Carter score an overtime goal in the Stanley Cup finals to be immensely comforting.
While I do like the idea of Richards, Carter and Gagne winning the Cup somewhere else... most of their fans don't seem to care too much. Yet another reason why it's Devils in 7.
