One of Biggest Takeaways from Devs Series - They are Enemy #1

This may sound crazy, but for me, one of the biggest takeaways from that series is that it really reminded me of who our #1 rival has been/is/forever will be - the Devils.

For the last few seasons, the Flyers and Penguins seemed to be taking a piece of that crown away from NJ, but after this series, we better all remember who our biggest rival is.

Mostly, it's because of the classless NJ fans, too. At the game last night, I saw several rangers fans get cowardly sucker-punched in the face during the intermission before OT and then walking to Newark Penn Station. Beer was thrown, jerseys were stolen, rangers fans were kicked. The whole scene was such an embarrassment to that fan base that it's almost hard to describe to anyone that wasn't there. It was the epitome of classless.

Anyone else there and watch that too / have the same reaction as me?

(note: islanders not mentioned b/c they are still irrelevant, sorry isles fans)

No, Isles are.

Whenever they get their act together and actually are a good team that rivialy will be bigger then the devils.

Sorry Devil fans

Our biggest problem in the East is the Penguins. I think it's the same for the Devils, Flyers and whoever. It doesn't make any difference though--there is no way you want to lose to anyone but the teams in your own division are the worst to lose to. That being said the Jersey fans on HF probably hate us more than anyone else right now and one has to think that it's pretty much the same off this site. I don't know if it's because their fan base seem to be more insular than anyone else on HF or that so many Rangers--Devils fans in Jersey are living right next to each other but their hatred seems to be downright toxic--which amuses me to some degree.

They have the right to crow now--no doubt about it. Everything is live and learn.

I've seen Rangers fans gang up on Devils fans, Flyers fans, and Islanders fans. All teams have scum on their side of the aisle.

I am going to imagine that the OP was too young to hear the torment isles fans gave us in the 80's and the 90's before the cup run. Its the isles folks - always will be.

right now i like the isles and even root for them against the teams i dont like. now when they beat us i usually want them deported from the tristate area right then and there but in general i do not hate them (probably because the are a laughing stock of the league and they are almost too bad to hate)

I'll be honest, leaving Prudential last night I had more Devils fans coming up to me telling me to keep my head up because of how good the Rangers are going to be for years to come then I did a-holes come up to me...Most of the fans I dealt with were pretty cool after the game. I personally only had one incident that almost escalated into something physical but it was actually a Devil fan that stepped in and put an end to it. I did see a lot of other issues walking back to my car, but I'm sure some of our Ranger fans weren't helping either...You really just have to know how to deal with the ********. Anytime one came up to me yelling "duhhhh 1994 man!!!", I just calmly reminded them to enjoy it while they can since their "god" of a goalie is done soon, their captain is most likely leaving(and possibly coming to the Rangers ), and that their hero Kovy is going to styart handcuffing them with his contract soon...Some people just don't know how to win/lose with class

A 6+ million cap hit will probably never be a hinderance going forward. Every fan base has people who are fans for the wrong reasons. I've been at Penn Station waiting for a train back to LI and been absolutely destroyed for my Brodeur jersey. Usually it doesn't escalate because I won't let it. I often find that hockey fans want to talk hockey regardless of where your loyalties lie. Also Zach could go, anything is possible, but I would be pretty shocked if he's not back in his customary #9 with the C to match in red and black. Anyway, Ranger fans have a team to match the fanbase. Congrats on a great campaign and look forward to some regular season donnybrooks. Hopefully Torts and DEBO going head to head!

As was stated before the Islanders are hands down the Rangers biggest rival. If we had lost this series to the Islanders it would have been 10x worse.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Kovys cap hit go up to as much as 11 million some years? I believe next year is one of those years. You'd probably know better than me but I heard a Devils fan mention that a few days ago.

Cap hit stays the same. The first number is salary. 0's are bonuses.

Let's put it this way--if Fleury and the Pens defense get their act back together in the playoffs they're the team to beat--not us, not the Devils, Flyers or Bruins. No team out there can match Crosby, Malkin, Jordan Staal. The only thing they can do is try to contain them and that's why the Rangers need to hold on to guys like McDonagh, Staal, Girardi and continue to add great young d-men to the mix--not to mention have Lundqvist backing them up and the forwards coming back hard and blocking shots. No team out there is going to run and gun successfully against the Pens if the Pens are getting a decent effort out of their goalie and defense.

Meh, the Devils won't be good forever. I honestly think that this is a lucky year for them.

Isles will always be #1 even if they suck balls. Although the players don't really see it this way since the Islanders have sucked forever. The intensity isn't there like it used to be. However, once the Isles are a legit playoff contender (which I think will be sooner rather than later), the rivalry will be renewed and people will forget about the Devils.

This year the Flyers were the Rangers players biggest rival all throughout the regular season.

It's hard to pinpoint who the "worst" rival we have is or "most hated" because in terms of this team "Devils" or "Islanders" would be perceived as as the most hated rival i guess, but on a fan to fan basis it differs. Some Ranger fans hate the Devils the most. Some the Islanders. Some Philly.

I personally can not stand Pittsburgh.
