I think he will get a QO one way deal, then one of the following things happen:

He makes the team and plays with them next season

or

He does not make the team and gets traded for a pick or in a package

This is all cause of some "pr friendly" Gm from a backyard club in Khl and zuke's also "pr friendly" agent...

Now why would zuke, who's on record as saying that his main goal is to stay in new york and in the nhl agree to a new club the day after his club is eliminated?

2 wrongs don't make a right....right?

I see zuke getting a new agent, hitting the gym and earning a spot on the team next season...

Hard to say Did not understand any words.
I have never been to New York, but could imagine it was not anything like that.
But I guess those two years pretty much secure his economic future. Hard to blame someone for that.

But if Torts and Slather new that he negotiated with Mettalurg during play off, I understand he didn`t skated him.
In fact he doesn`t deserve any icetime for doing that.
He could easely have waited to after monday and the teams exit talks.
I understand Zuke is dissapointed, but that parrot agent of his, should have known better.

Oh, sorry I didn't get you at first

If they don't offer him a contract before July 1st, he'll become a UFA and can sign with any club in the NHL.

It's a shame he got injured. Was really helping the PP. Oh well, not a big deal. His $1.7M cap hit was definitely overpayment anyway. Good luck Zuke.

He got injured by blocking a shot. Not in practise, but in a game. He was in the lineup.

I have to disagree. Zuke might have been right at home on a more offensively gifted team. More offensive threats = more room for Zuke to use his speed and score/make plays.

Come on, do you guys actually believes he wants to play under Torts again ?

A coach that trusts Hagelin and Mitchell more than him ? Come on. Zuccarello does not want to stay with NYR. He has never gotten a shot at top 6. He is playing in KHL next season.

Zuke wants to play in the NHL.

Why would he sign for KHL before he knows if the Rangers or another NHL team will give him a new contract? He knows that he can go to KHL tomorrow if he wants. I think heŽll wait to se what happens in NHL.

But one thing is for sure, he will not play for the Whale next season. He is also waiver eligible, so that gives him the upper hand as well. I hope the Rangers are decent enough to either give hime a one way deal if they believen in him, or let him go as an UFA if not.

@AlexandrZaytsev: Metallurg's vice-president Velichkin: "Immediately after the #Rangers lost in the playoffs, Zuccarello signed a contract with us."

In case anyone forgot, Velichkin "helped" Malkin to sign a contract with Metallurg in 2006 by visiting him at 3 AM.

I wonder at what time was the contract signed this time?

As for the reason, I think Zuccarello wants more ice time, which he will get in the KHL. Besides, there is an example of Radulov, who became a much better player after leaving for the KHL.

and it is reason why Europeans should play at home (KHL, SM-Liiga, Elitserien) until 24-25 years, then sign one-way NHL contracts. No need to play CHL or AHL

Look at Khokhlachev - he is considering to come back. Why if NA route is greatest one? Or he realized that it was not great step to play CHL?

Another question for the experts:

IF the Rangers give Zuke a QO, but he signs for the KHL, the Rangers have the rights for him in the NHL. How long do they have his rights? I heard someone say that if the Rangers give him a QO, they have his rights until he is 27 years old? Is this true? In that case, he can play 2 years in KHL and then return to any NHL team that wants to give him a contract?

Btw, Zuke signed his contract with the Rangers May 25th or May 26th 2010. If the contract was 2 years, is it expired, or do all the NHL contracts end at July 1st?

Don`t remember where I read it right now,but it was a direct quote from Mettalurgs GM who said that they negotiated during PO when he was hurt.
But stopped the negotiations once he was healthy to play,so they don`t interupt his PO`s.
They also investegated how serious his injury was.
