Before the playoffs started I was concerned that our fate would end up like the 2009 Bruins.
-2007 Bruins miss playoffs (we missed in 2010)
-2008 Bruins make playoffs as number 8 seed, lose round 1
(2011 we were eight seed, lose round 1)
-2009 Bruins stun everybody and finish 1 in the conference. They do it based on goaltending, heart, and defense.
-Their problem is they lack enough top 6 six skill AND their best scorer is a soft choker in Phil Kessel.
-They lose to a six seed in Carolina (we lose to six seed NJ).
I was really worried that we would do likewise...that our lack of scoring could allow a lower seed to break through.
The Bruins struggled in 2010, but rebounded excellent and made it worthwhile in 2011.
I really hope we follow their arc LESS 2010!
To do so I believe like Boston we must get rid of our soft, over-rated sniper in Gaborik as they did with Kessel.
And they followed the trend of playing in WC and winning the cup the next season. Pitt, Chicago then Boston. We're next Most of the team is just getting started.. the next few seasons look incredibly bright for our young team.
If you look at the scores even from the 2007 Ducks, they had a few games where they scored 4+ but almost every game was 3-2 or 2-1. They didn't score that much. Looked very similar to our scores this year.
The similarities are scary. I've had a feeling this whole season that Gaborik wouldn't be a top player when it counts. He is just too soft for this team. I would like to trade him for a more skillful winger. Imagine if we could sign Parise AND trade Gaborik for someone like Bobby Ryan...
