Getting something for a guy who I didn't think was going to stay with the organization anyway after July 1 is good I guess but after 4 full AHL seasons Hamill hasn't shown anything close to what you would expect from such a high selection.

Let's be honest... ill wager 20 bucks Hamill is in the opening night lineup. (Not saying that's a good thing at all)

Every trade better include a superstar or you're doing it wrong.

I greatly respect how Chris Bourque has worked to be a hockey player. If the AHL is his high water mark he has nothing to be ashamed of. I wish him all the best.

Hopefully the new kid figures something out and can be an NHLer one day.

The only justified complaint about McPhee here is that he thinks about these small moves too much. He doesn't have the vision, charisma, hockey mind to create blockbusters. The blockbusters the LA Kings have made recently are examples for an NHL GM to note.

Pretty hard to compare Perreault to slow Hamill....AHL player all along....

Aucoin will not be back....

Bruins fan here .... what's the deal with Bourque, 93 pts in the AHL. He's obviously got some skill. I remember him being really fast, no? Why did he never make the Caps? Is it just his size that is holding him back?

As for Hamill, he's pretty unimpressive. I don't think you'll find a Bruins fan out there that believes he'll ever become at Top 6 player.

.

He was close. He always played hard. But evidently NHLers are good enough to stop him from doing what works so well in the AHL.

From my viewing Bourque just doesn't have wheels for the NHL.

Its tough to be short in the league. Theo Fleury seems of similar build. The league could use more characters like Theo.

Theo was great. And tiny. I remember him at the old Cap Center carving up guys with his stick. Him and Dale on the ice at the same time. Completely crazy. Those were the days.

IMO, he never got a decent look. Some will point to the Pens, but different system with not a lot of time to adjust. Some point to size and some other speed. MP and Aucoin both did ok at the NHL level. Bourque is bigger then both and plays a better overall game imo. I think spending sometime in Europe, having a kid and being in Boston might give him a needed spark/push.

He is listed at 5'7" 170 - sturdy build but small. 5-7 usually means 5'6 something. MP is 5'10 185. Coin 5'9" 187.

Chris did get PP time in his limited callups at least. That's a lot more than some prospects ever get. I cant remember which line(s) he was on though. But yeah it was a small window for him to show his stuff. A lesson to other prospects busting their butts in the AHL for year after year. These prospects have to go all out balls to the wall. Entertain us, make it hard for George to send you down. Even dare and play outside your game a little bit.

Lou Franceshetti - hit like a tank in his callups. All he had was speed. They couldn't send him down, an overnight fan favorite trucking defensemen, all the while falling all over the place and no hands. Many a player has literally fought for an NHL job, including Matt Hendricks. Once in the door, you are largely in. And he was one of our better playoff grinders. Who knew. Scoring a goal is so hard to do, yet appears the only way prospects think they can steal a job.

I think we need to take this thread a little further...maybe GMGM was referring to that particular game when he made the comment...he test-drives his trade proposals and lineups in the game, and then translates that to the real world. It's almost matrix-like.

Exactly what we need, another undersized AHL center.

Well, considering Aucoin is likely gone, that is what we need--in Hershey.

That's what this trade is about, despite all the pointless whinging that's going on.

Yeah I really doubt that... Why make an AHL move that makes your AHL team worse?

Because your AHL team has no offensive centers beyond Potulny? And considering Bourque is a pending UFA, it doesn't necessarily make your AHL team worse. What's better--a Hershey team without Bourque and Hamill, or a Hershey team with Hamill?

This is not an NHL trade. Why people can't get that through their heads, I have no idea.

Bourque wasn't coming back next season. He is a UFA and has said so in the interviews after the trade. Hamill will be a good addition to Hershey and maybe see 3 or 4 games with the Caps.

If they wanted to help Hershey they would resign Bourque and Aucoin...

Yes, because they are in complete control of the actions of those players.

Agree with those saying Bourque wasn't returning as an UFA this summer, get an asset in return for one leaving. Hamill slotted for the AHL, would be a pleasant surprise if he made the Caps out of camp because he made the team not because of lack of signings/competition.

As to Hershey: Here is some information for next season - Hershey (H) and Washington (W) contracts known about for next season (for players who played for Hershey this season & new contracts, etc.); vet indicates AHL vet rule status:

Coaches: French and Mann

Forwards:
Almeida (H), Civitarese (H), Pope(H), Syner (H); Eakin (W), Galiev (W) Mitchell (W), Potulny(W/vet);
plus Paquette (W; loaned to another ECHL team to finish the '11-12 season)

NHL RFAs require QOs from Washington: F: Carman and Hamilll

Defensemen:
Brouillette (H), Wellar (H); Flemming (W), Kundratek (W), McNeill (W/tw vet), Schilling (W), Stevenson (W), plus Orlov* (W)

NHL RFAs require QOs from Washington: D: Marshall

Goalies:
Grubauer (W); Anderson (W)

Notes:
Holtby, most expect he will start the season with Washington; Anderson (assume he will start at ECHL level)
*Orlov, obviously a good possibility he starts the season in Washington
