CBJ Re-Signs Derek MacKenzie 2yrs/$2m

From Portzline:

Quote:
Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline

When #CBJ C Derek MacKenzie passes a physical, his contract is official. Don't have terms yet. He missed final 16 games with a concussion.
Once the deal's official and/or terms are released, I'll update (or a mod can do it if one beats me to it).

Either way, I like it if the terms are right. Heart and soul guy.

Letting DMac go would have been a mistake in the way letting Manny go was, in retrospect. Again, we'll see the terms, but I would have been ticked if they hadn't gotten this done.

Great. Two down, one more important signing to go. DMac is the all effort guy that this team needs.

REsigning. And if you want to go for one of the big guys, we've got a bigger need for a Parise.

I see him at the gymn most days but as far as I can tell he is only doing the exercise bike for about half an hour. He may not be 100% yet....

I wouldn't call it a foregone conclusion that we're not going to get either guy, but I will concede that it is extremely unlikely.

Yeah I really hope he can get back to 100%. The team can use his skill-set and intensity, but for him too, a guy who works hard and who paid his dues.

Porty saying DMac passed his physical

Quote:
Blue Jackets center Derek MacKenzie has agreed to terms on a two-year, $2 million contract, a deal that is expected to be announced on Wednesday after he passed a physical with team doctors tonight.

Outstanding. Very nice terms. Great signing. One more player I can depend on to lay it all out on the ice.

The MacKenzie signing doesn’t do as much for me as the Dorsett signing… He’s ok but in the end he’s a fourth line depth forward with an edge and not much more. No need to get overly excited here.

Awesome news. One of the deserved contracts on the team. A great 4th line center/PK player for $1 million a year.

When will Robert respect us?

Good signings, however small, are good decisions, and we should applaud those as much as we piss and moan about the bad ones.

Good guy to have in the mix. You have to have heart and soul guys for success, and guys like Dorsett and DMac are great heart and soul guys ... even if they don't put up huge numbers.

I like this signing, now I just wish that the Dorsett contract was closer to this contract than the numbers he got. Regardless, it's good to have heart and soul type guys on this roster.

Great news.

MacKenzie is an outstanding 4rth liner. He embodies what an "energy line" player should have. He skates well, hits, antagonizes a fair bit, and always goes at top speed.

He also is capable of moving up in the line up as a 3rd, or in a pinch, 2nd line player.

He's a plus 18 in 165 games as a Jacket. That's no small feat.
