If it was serious, they would have pulled him during the at bat when he was wincing.

If it was serious he would have never had that at bat.

idiotic decision to take out karstens. He was pitching well. He didn't look tired at all.

Maybe they took him in for X-rays and didn't get the results back right away...

It was a good decision to pull him out. 95 pitches was good enough for him especially he was on DL for a while. He doesn't have strength yet.

I blame Cutch's possible wrist injury on the thread title.

He looked perfectly fine. I don't believe in this pitch count ********. He was striking out guys left and right. And what happens right after they pull him? Watson let's up a run.

Yes very sacrilegious. The Baseball Gods definitely weren't happy.

So you pull him before he displays pain, what?

It is 103 in St Louis. I applaud you if you are not being drained at all by exerting yourself for hours in 100+ heat. Further, Karstens striking people out is a fluke, he is not a K pitcher, < 5K/9IP for his career and the year.

Pirates able to get to Lynn with that grand slam and get the win, exceeding expectations and perfectly fine with that.

You knew it was coming.

You all asked for it.

Raise the Jolly Roger. Feel sick about Cutch though. He could use a day off, hopefully that's the main reason he came out.

IF it was serious he would have displayed pain in the first place not the latter that's foolish. And how is striking out guys a fluke? He made it happen he was working at a fast pace and nobody was really getting any contact off of him.

Hurdle did a right thing to pulled him out. Let him leave the game on a positive note.

Hurdle on Cutch.

Reporter: Is it a daunting injury?

CH: "I don't have any idea. It is a left wrist sprain, that is what we are dealing with. He will probably get a blow tomorrow. I was anticipating giving him a blow tomorrow anyway."

Reporter: He hurt on the catch?

CH: "Yes."

EDIT: Strasburg left game with heat related issues.

Joey Votto left his game with inflammation in his left knee.

Thome traded to Baltimore.

It is clear we aren't even arguing on the same page in regards to the injury.

Just because something happens doesn't mean it isn't a fluke; how many goals are scored that can be considered flukes because of the way they bounced off the ice or people? Karsten's K/9 rate is well below average; his career is 4.7 while league average is 7. Hell, even the flamethrower Jaime Moyer has a higher strikeout rate; last time Moyer had a season with a K rate below Karsten's career average was 2006 and he is 49 with a fastball that tops out at 80.

Even if they left him in and he doesn't give up any runs, so what, it doesn't change the outcome of the game or give him a chance to chase a historic moment. What upside is there to leave in Karstens that wasn't there if they had taken him out? One run? Besides, Hughes and Watson last played on the 27th so they had a few days rest and it wasn't taxing the bullpen.

Seems like the players are usually pretty poor sources on their own injuries. I'll take it though.

Like Hurdle said, tomorrow is a good day for him to take off anyway with the schedule as it is.

The Pirates got good news on a player they can't afford to lose, too. X-rays showed no significant injury to McCutchen, who tweaked his wrist making a diving catch.
Just a sprained wrist.

Funny thing now is, I wish Lincoln was going today. I would have never said that two weeks ago.

Well-deserved. I'm hoping they will add Burnett later.
