It gets funny around here.
People that complain that this rebuild is taking too long (Because that is what it is, this whole thing about the GM having no experience, that we have too many recent top picks, etc) It is that the fanbase FORGOT that Milbury left us with nothing, Zero. Smith we got Okposo. Every non rookie (other than DP) is not here from 06.
Yet the Colli is empty, most here dont even go (and I am talking about people that live on LI here) so they are part of the problem. THere are so few posters here that have the right to complain that bought season tickets (or a lot of regular season games) last year or the years previous to it. I can think of one (you know who you are Twine)
It is the same people that get really angry that Milbury traded away Chara, McCabe, Luongo, etc....
Some just like to complain.
I would bet that most here probably will be complaining when this team makes it into the playoffs that "it took too long!" When they make it into the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the playoffs that "we could have gone further if we made x trade" or "we could have been here sooner if we got rid of DP"(And I am not a DP supporter by any means). It is just complaints. Oh well.
You are bang on with the fact that Milbury left this team with nothing and that rebuilds do not happen overnight. No argument there.
For the bolded however, if this team continues its flawed operating tactics, then yes....it will be way too long before we finally make the playoffs. Ridiculously too long. Successful rebuilds are fueled by a desire to achieve progress, not by staying stagnant and hoping for the best. Will the isles ever make the playoffs again? Of course they will....eventually. However, I don't want to wait a full decade for us to finally luck out on a seemingly endless supply of lottery finishes. I want us to draft well (which has been done to a reasonable degree) and help those pieces live up to their full potential. Help Bailey become a solid #2 centerman, rather than feeding him to the wolves and saying "o well, we always have Strome that can fill that role". What happens if Strome is put in the same situation and regresses??? Do we just rely on our 2014 first rounder to be the solution?? Should we just continue this cycle for years until we eventually draft a freak of nature like Tavares??
Want to take the next step?? Quit stocking the full cupboard with a steady turnover of draft picks and start supporting the resources you already have to progress, succeed and ultimately be part of a long term solution.
The Isles improved their point totals from 73 to 79. I would say rebuilding has taken some progress from last year. But I hope they get around 85 points at least not fall back like 2010-11 season.
Isles standings the last 3 seasons
2009–10 82 34 37 11 79 222 264 5th, Atlantic Did not qualify
2010-11 82 30 39 13 73 229 264 5th, Atlantic Did not qualify
2011–12 82 34 37 11 79 203 255 5th, Atlantic Did not qualify
Tell me where the improvement was? They had a similar record to 2009-2010 with a lineup that was the healthiest it's been in years. None of their "big guys" barely missed any time or significant time to injury. The 2009-2010 team also had won at least 3 games in a row multiple times, where the 2011-2012 team won 3 in a row once at the end of the season. Also this years team had practically no secondary scoring while they were a 1 line team all season. They were inconsistent, hardly gave a full 60 minute effort, and when they got out to a quick lead they gave it back almost instantly. They would've won maybe around 20 games if not for the years Tavares, Moulson, and Parenteau had.
