The KHL has announced Calgary Flames pivot Roman Cervenka is one of the six players awarded with the Golden Helmet award for their 2011-12 season efforts.
Cervenka joins goaltender Alexander Yeryomenko (Dynamo Moscow), defencemen Dmitry Kalinin (SKA) and Kevin Dallman (Barys), and forwards Alexander Radulov (Salavat Yulaev) and Mikhail Anisin (Dynamo Moscow) in receiving the award and being named to the KHL 2011-12 season all-star team.
In 54 regular season games with Avangard this year, Cervenka potted 23 goals and recorded 39 points. He was outstanding in the postseason, notching 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) in 20 games.
I really hope this guy turns out to be a legit NHL'er. Watching the 2010 games, Russia had a ton of KHL guys representing them, they were by all means slower and couldn't handle the pace of the pure NHL team in Canada.
Would really love to have signed a top end star from a really different source (not a 6+ million dollar free agent, etc).
