Luc Robitaille...

...became an American citizen today!

I just saw it on the SCSR.. he was waving his little American flag with a couple hundred of other new American citizens.

He said he finally has the time to do it.. it's been something he has wanted to do for a long time. He says he feels this is the country that gave him his chance.

Congrats Luuuuuc!

I don't blame him. Even when he was in his prime I don't think Team Canada gave him a fair shake internationally. Granted he may be vulnerable on bigger ice...but come on the guy is the highest scoring left winger in league history.

jason allison never made the canadian team because of this...if jason can't even make it, then alot of good players that can't skate won't make that team...

Yeah if you're the 4th leading scorer in the NHL and then don't get invited to summer camp for Team Canada...

Congrats Luc!

Anyone know if he still lives in Hidden Hills? I think he does but I'm not certain anymore.

Man this guy was one of my favourites of all time, but he just lost that now... You leave your country just because they didn't give you a chance? Nice job Luc, you're a great role model for little kids He's teaching that if you don't get something done just give up, and move onto something else.

Are you dense enough to actually believe that? The dude has spent the majority of his adult life in the United States, it's become his home moreso then Canada.

Luc didn't say it in a way to criticize his home country. He said that the US gave him a chance which is why he wanted to become a citizen. He also said he lives here, his family lives here, his children are from here and he loves it here.

What's so wrong about that?

If anything, it's a testament to Luc for NOT giving up because Canada didn't give him a chance. Look at him now.. just shows how persistent he was/is.

I know that if I had spent the majority of my life in another country, that I'd want at least a dual citizenship between my home country and the one that I lived in.

Many Canadians do this after spending years of their career in the US. Shanahan, Yzerman and Gretzky are a few examples.

Luc in a recent interview said that he first got the idea after watching the South Park movie. When he couldnt get "blame Canada" out of his head was when he decided that it was time to change citizenship.....

Dont be so hard on the guy. Whistler, girls that love hockey and Kokanee is enough reason to go.

Hey I love hockey but I am staying in the states and I am happy that Luc became a citizen. He looked so happy I got tears in my eyes Friday watching that on SCSR at BJ's. All my friends thought I was nuts.
