Pretty good deal for both sides. I'm sure Pavel was asking 4+, while Cheveldayoff was hovering around the 3.5 mark.
steal for Winny imo ..

with this in mind i wouldn't be surprised to see the Schneider signing being well north of $5 million per.

and Vancouver thinks they don't have an issue...

pretty good deal for Winnipeg, I agree. I wonder if Gus will be able to steal the back-up role.

I don't think he has to "steal" anything. Chris Mason looks like he may be testing the market.

Schneider has played in 68 career NHL regular season games. Pavelec played that amount alone last season.

Are you saying that warrants north of $5 million per?

Yes, not 10 years or anything Luongo-esqe, but a 2 year, 10 million or a 3 year 15 million. Something in that area. Unless they intend to lock him up long term.

This was there starter for their final playoff games while Luongo was riding the pine. By all accounts, he is the real deal. I'm sure they're ready to jump in with both feet in regards to Schneider. It has to be that high or he may be susceptible get an offer sheet. For salary in that range its a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd round pick. A team could be desperate enough for that to go that route.

They are but I don't see how he gets $5 million or even north of that based on how little he's played during his career.

After actually looking at some other comparable at this point in their careers, I agree actually 5 mil is high, more like 3-3.5 is more likely. My bad

It a little odd how young forwards/defense-men are often paid on potential, thats never really the case for goalies.

True and that's why I think Schneider will take a short term to try and prove himself...and then cash in!

The Washington Capitals are going with a familiar face behind the bench, as the club has hired Adam Oates as their new head coach.

This here is what I find funny about the whole Luongo situation. Luongo plays during the regular season, plays like an elite net-minder, the Canucks annually almost win the President's Trophy. Then the Playoffs roll around, the Canucks play the exact same brand of skill hockey they played in the regular season, the team starts to falter. Canucks swap Luongo for Schneider. Canucks still lose, regardless of which guy was in net. Therefore, Luongo = Choker.

The entire team of the Canucks choked. Or, you know, just got out-played. We know they're not the toughest team, are we surprised that the playoffs are the stage where the Canucks don't play as well? Yet the blame is put squarely on Luongo, and now as a result, we have a chance at getting an elite goalie for a fraction of his actual worth.

I feel like this is the more public version of the Phaneuf deal. Could be huge for the franchise.

Sorry, I know I got a little off-topic

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Blues and coach Ken Hitchcock, who led the team to its first playoff series win in a decade last season, have agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season with a mutual option for 2014-15.
The 60-year-old Hitchcock won the Jack Adams Award after producing the franchise's first 100-point season since 2001 and its first postseason series win since 2002. The Blues tied for second overall in the NHL in the regular season and beat San Jose in the playoffs before getting swept by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- The Edmonton Oilers have promoted assistant Ralph Krueger to head coach.
Krueger spent the last two seasons as an assistant under Tom Renney, whose contract was not renewed after the Oilers finished 29th in the NHL last season at 32-40-10.
''It's been a natural, healthy 23 years of growth as a coach and I'm ready for this situation,'' Krueger said Wednesday at a press conference to announce his hiring.

Penguins got a steal on the Crosby deal.. 8.7 yearly average and the cap is at 70 million. Just over 10% of the cap for probably the best player in the game.

I'm going to wait before I decide if crosby.new contact is good/bad. Still skeptical he will ever be 100% and playing at the level he once was capable of.

Right, they "won" the lottery .

Good deal for both sides. Crosby gets big time cash in actual salary, and Pens get a sweet cap hit for tagging on a couple.

The amount of revenue he brings them will make that contract look like toilet paper.

Worst thing that happens for the Penguins is that Crosby gets hurt, retires or goes on LTIR. The worst that could've happened TBH, was them being scared off by the concussion and NOT signing him.. Then what?
