The Penguins now have the highest payroll going into FA. They'll be fine this season but the following they have Crosby, Staal, and Letang approaching UFA. Martin has a NMC and nearly everyone else worth mentioning a NTC. I don't think a 2M backup on a +35 contract was the best idea. They better hope ~70M is the cap figure when the new CBA is announced
And again. LA is just playing amazing inspired hockey. Hope to see the Leafs in this type of situation one day.
Inspired hockey? They've dominated this whole playoffs and no team could figure them out. They win by battling, fore checking and playing smart hockey. I haven't see a team this well coordinated like this in years... And how about Quick? This guy shutdown machine.
Either than that, Kings haven't been tested. Hard to argue they deserve they cup because they do, but this hasn't an entertaining run by L.A. when the other teams can't figure you out. Competition would have been nice.
exactly! PS love the avatar.. Huge Niners fan here!
Haha nice man! I put 50 bucks on them to win the bowl about a month ago. 750 Payout I think we actually have as good a chance as anybody. Best fundamental team in football imo

Wow. Big spender already.
Eagles got it this year, specially if they are healthy. They finally got a decent LB.

Sure is inspired. The fact that no one can figure out how to beat them is inspiring to me. They are just a notch over everyone else. I find it really entertaining to watch them dominate over everyone but that's just me.
Really sucks LA cup drought is almost over, Bruins and Chicago winning the last 2 years while we continue to suck with no light in the end of the tunnel. Really pissses me off after 7 years, no significant progress.

What was the dumb quote said about the 8th seed? No truth to that Burkie
It's quite funny that the teams that win the stanley cup struggle to do anything productive in the latter years. For L.A , this is a long time coming and they're peaking at the right team. It's amazing how dominated they've been this playoffs.

Yeah, but they rolled over their opponents with ease. They haven't faced adversity at all. A lot of it has to do with Sutter's strict methods. He is a tactics specialist.

No coincidence this team you speak of which has rolled over their opponents with ease has been built through all means necessary.

That's what rebuilding is.
Show me L.A's great progress between 2003(when they draft Brown) to 2010(when they made there first playoff appearance since 2002.
That was a long rebuild. They drafted key pieces (Doughty, Kopitar, Quick,) and acquired Carter/Richards, mostly depth players. Also they got some size, which is good.
Boston thinks a cap floor team is going to acquire Thomas to help gain cap space. Is it just me, or does anyone think this would NEVER happen.
Why not take a chance on a Komisarek type player/contract who could actually provide value?
Is there any owner who would sign off on this?
Do you realise that if he doesn't play, he's not paid?
An owner like Wang would be more than happy to gain a $5M cap hit to reach the cap floor without having to disburse a single nickel (red cents are being taken out of circulation).
I take my chances with Lindback or Harding. I would take Luongo in a heartbeat if it wasnt for his horrible contract. You dont make a knee-jerk react to get a goalie who can hurt your franchise in the future.
this is where you dont know what you are talking about. How can you say there is only 1 available starter out there? Cause the media and the Luongo situation is the only public news? There are trades that come out of left field all the time & BB is known for them.
I know we are all hungry and excited to see what goes down over these next few months, but after the results of last season, Burke will do something. He knows we need help..

Also since 2006 every Canadian team except Toronto (and Montreal) have made the cup finals, even though they all lost but still ... being a Leafs fan sucks
