Hawks should have went after a guy like Jackman (Type of dman this team needs)

Nope went with a guy who makes Leddy look like Pronger when it comes to physical hockey/defense

Oduya is an absolute joke defensively and is softest player in NHL

I thought our defense got way better once acquiring Oduya. Especially with the injuries to Hjalmarsson and Montador. He played a big part in the late-season stretch that put the Hawks comfortably in the playoffs when it was starting to look shaky. Phoenix definitely wasn't the best matchup for a guy like him but he's still pretty solid overall.

I think I'm more surprised that they're bringing Jamal Mayers back. Is he really necessary?

Suter is going to get 8 mil a year. The Hawks aren't going to put 20 mil of their cap in 3 Defensemen. No team is

They're getting pretty close to putting 20 million of their cap into nothing players.

Capable #12/13F who is well liked in lockeroom and by coaches (Q did coach him in Stl)

No reason to not just bring back Mayers

Hawks dont have a bunch of 4th line caliber prospects NHL close or ready

Bowman signed him so that makes him a great player. That's how this organization is run nowadays. Problem is he actually is still decent but Bowman will make this his 4th line center signing and manage to ruin it.

You make it sound like Bowman beats the players if they play well.

Bowman has the personality and intelligence of a 9 year old in a middle aged bald man's body. I guess that's what happens when you're Scotty Bowman's son.

They say talent skips a generation, this would be a prime example of it.

While not going the typical BWC hyperbole in player evaluation in regards to Oduya, he was quite poor in the playoffs.

No he's not. He's a bottom pairing puck mover who gets PP time. He deserves to be paid as such. Until the terms are released, there's not cause to crap on the re-signing.

He's a decent player. A good bottom-pairing defenseman. But he isn't what the Hawks need at all... he's essentially an older Leddy, with less potential for obvious reasons.
Oduya is definitely not better offensively than defensively. Watched him for several seasons in NJ and have tracked him since he left.

Guys a great pucker mover who is solid in his own end but lacks offensive creativity.

Oduya does not get PP time. He's had under over one minute of PP TOI/Game once in the last four seasons.

He was probably the worst player on the team against Phoenix.

Don't really care. Nothing of value can be derived from six games.

The Hawks fans in this thread are ludicrous. Oduya has a strong history of being a solid second pairing puck mover and they seem to think that one playoff series somehow completely dispels that.

At 1 year/0.6 he's also easily waivable if he appears to be done and a prospect is ready to step in full time.

Anything less than 4M per year for a month of that fabulous moustache is a bargain.

I'm glad you know more about our team than us buddy. Oduya was getting first pairing PP minutes down the stretch and in the playoffs.

That is another typical Blowman contract. Load the roster up with overpaid bottom pairing defensemen.

Yep, right up there with Gomez as far as I'm concerned. Come on man, think before you post stuff like that.

Oduya is atrocious, and Bowman is even worse in his GM role. That guy would never have a job with another name.
