Rangers fans are the best for a good laugh. this thread reminds me when they were saying that Dubinsky will be moved only for a superstar center a couple of years ago...
And Penguins fans are just as worse.
"Paul Martin will scored 60 points when he leaves that terrible trapping NJ system".
But he didn't get Norris votes over a teammate he's clearly better than. That makes him terrible
That's what kills me about so called hockey fans.... NYR D is going to be SOLID for years. As a Canadian am already thinking of 2014 Olympics with Staal and Girardi in that line up.
No it wouldn't. Sutter for Staal would not make sense. Maybe Rangers can add something small, but skinner would be the target.

That would be awesome, though, if all the brothers played on the same team that hoisted a
no one can dispute that
It would be awesome for the NHL. To have 3 damn good players represent one team. Staal family wouldn't be torn not knowing who to root for when there's a game on either. And Marc wouldn't have to worry about getting concussed from big-bro'.
I don't know. Guy was an all-star defender and defensively is top-10 in the league.
Maybe you should watch the guy play before replying with plithy little shots like this that hold no water or merit.

Doesn't seem very elite to me. I guess the PHWA doesn't know anything about Marc Staal, either.
Notice to Duncan Keith, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Erik Karlsson: Please turn in your Norris Trophy awards immediately. They were actually supposed to be awarded to Marc Staal.
Did I say he was better than any of those guys?
First off, Lidstrom is retired. Second, Duncan Keith hasn't been the same since his Norris win. Third, I said defensively, he's top-10, probably top-5 in the league defensively. Karlsson got his Norris because he scored a bunch of points and it's clear that you value points more than positional and one-on-one defensive play, areas where Karlsson still leaves a lot to be desired.

Staal is not an elite defender no matter which way you look at it. He's good, not great. I don't even know if I'd trade Skinner straight up for Staal, I think Skinner has a lot more potential. The only reason the 'Canes would make that trade is to have this cutesy thing of Team Staal going on.
This post is gold.
Did you watch the Rangers this season at all? Maybe you'd know that Staal was recovering from a major concussion and missed half of the season, but was our best defenseman in the playoffs.

I can't believe you actually posted this, lol.
Then again, you probably think Kadri and Kulemin could fetch Skinner.
Sorry, I forgot that hockey doesn't exist outside of Toronto... and you guys wonder why nearly everyone hates almost your entire fanbase LMFAO.

Really? Care to post that? I mean I would LOVE to see it and have a good laugh myself if it is in fact true. If anything, you might be referring to the fact that we would only trade him as part of a package for an upgrade at center, which is pretty normal if you ask me.

It has to be in the back of the Rangers' minds that there is a good chance Marc Staal will want to go to Carolina and with each year, his trade value to there goes down.

He's signed for 3 more season's. We're not worried about Staal going anywhere right about now...

This would be a great point if he had a year left on his deal and there were legitimate rumors of this being the case.
We're way too far from that point to be worrying about that, and Marc has a chance to win the cup in that time frame. Rangers will be making moves that will get them towards a cup. Carolina won't be there anytime soon.
The Rangers are a team that won the most games during the regular season and the third most during the playoffs. They are building towards a championship now.
Marc Staal missed the entire first half of the season with a concussion and was slowly worked back into the lineup by limiting his ice time. During the playoffs he was completely healthy and playing an average of over 25 minutes per game. Staal is only 25 and is signed for 3 more seasons at a cap hit of $3,975,000.
Marc Staal is an assistant captain and is huge part of the teams core. The Rangers have no need, want, or interest in trading him. If Carolina wants him then they need to convince the Rangers with a deal that makes NY a better team without Marc Staal.
When the point or the deal from Carolina's perspective is to unite the Staal brothers then that eliminates 2 of Carolina's 3 most valuable assets (Eric and Jordan), if the Hurricane's aren't interested in including Jeff Skinner in a deal their is no deal I can see that could possibly improve the Rangers right now.

So just to clear this up:
The Rangers, who squeaked into 8th place last year, can become Cup contenders in a year. But Carolina can't and won't be anytime soon.
the Hurricanes have made the playoffs TWICE post-lockout.
The Rangers have missed the playoffs ONCE post lockout.
You do the math.
The Hurricanes have made the ECF TWICE post-lockout.
The Rangers have made the ECF ONCE post-lockout.
See how that works? You, as a Ranger fan, should know how quickly a team's fate can turn in a span of one offseason. Especially when said team grabs a big, game-changing player.
Writing off Carolina next year (let alone in future years) is just being ignorant.

Ottawa wanted Dubinsky for Heatley a few years ago, it did not happen . So he have had high value, he's no superstar but he's solid. Sure Dubi could've scored more goals this season and he should have. But he's no Scott Gomez . Dubi actually holds decent value .

And when was the last time they made it? 3 years ago.
And when was the last time they made it? 3 years ago.
What have they done since?
My point exactly.
A lot of cockiness for a fan of a team that was literally 2 points away from Carolina two seasons ago.
Again, if you can't see how it's possible for the Canes to jump from bubble team to contender in the span of 1 offseason...when your Rangers did exactly that, you're just being ignorant.
NY isnt stupid they know marc is in thunderbay with his other 3 brothers that are all with there wives and gfs talking about what neighborhood they will be buying a home in ect... How great playing together will be.. Drinking beers skeeming on how to get Marc in on the fun.
Marc will end up in carolina. NY has 3 years to maximise this asset. Carolina has all the leverage here. Because marc will be hitting his prime when he is up for a contract. If Jstaal didnt get skinner i dont see Marc getting him.

It is possible.
Question is, how likely it is? Imo, not very likely unless Carolina plays like a completely different team this year.

Carolina has absolutely no leverage. Marc's signed for three more season's. Then he'll be an UFA. Do you know how many teams will be in on Marc? What's Carolina's cap space going to look like in 3+ years for now? Do you even know what leverage means, because Carolina doesn't have squat right now.
