Jordan Staal Sweepstakes V2 ‎

The other one is over 1 grand.

Original Arcticle from Pittsburgh Tribune:

http://triblive.com/sports/penguins/...-summer-center

Quote:
2. Toronto Maple Leafs

It has become known that Toronto general manager Brian Burke is a big Jordan Staal fan. In fact, every GM in hockey is a big Staal fan, but Burke is said to particularly covet him.

Burke and Shero are friends and have conducted business together. Think they would like Staal, a Thunder Bay native, in Ontario?

What the Maple Leafs have to offer

Center Nazem Kadri is the most talented player in Toronto’s system, and he thrived late in the season with the Maple Leafs. He’s a pure goal scorer. Also, defenseman Luke Schenn is the kind of physical, stay-at-home defenseman the Penguins badly need. The Maple Leafs are willing to deal Schenn.

5th overall + Kulemin + Holzer/Bozak for Staal (coming over with a gentleman's handshake)

Why would the Pittsburgh Tribune talk about Staal being dealt, seeing him leaving is all just fantasy.

Not too mention listing the Leafs who have absolutely no chance in landing him.

If i have the choice, I'd move Holzer instead of Bozak. I think his solid defensive game would be good on our 3rd line.

Pittsburgh fans also seem to belive the team has enough confidence in Jeffrey to try him out as the #3 C.

Where/When did Burke say he'd be willing to move Schenn?

Their website doesn't seem to be working.

Dreger has said a couple times that Schenn is available for the right deal.

Oh i get that Dreger is Nonis's cousin or w/e but everyone is available for the right price. I have a hard time believing him these days because he's always so vague.

I think a deal centered around Kulemin and the 5th could do it. Maybe swap that fifth for Schenn. Wouldn't think they'd want anyone that wouldn't fit into their long term plans.

Then Toronto will forever be the idiots that traded a 5th overall for a rental. We already fuss about the Niedermayer trade, if Staal doesn't re-sign here or Galchenyuk actually turns into a 1C Burke is burned in effigy all over Toronto.

The other Staal thread was more entertaining.

Sure, why not throw in Gardiner, Percy, Ryan and Scrivens while you're at it.

It was sarcasm, you would have to see my discussion in the other thread I guess to realize that.

What so crazy about trading a 5th overall for a 24 y/o for a former first overall? Don't see how that is so out of left field that its crazy
He would be a significant upgrade to Bozak(obv) and we wouldn't have to wait 6 years when the roster is completely different and that 5th overall can be ready to compete a a number 1 C(assuming that what we draft, and assuming he turns out). We know what Jordan Staal is. We have no idea what the 5th overall is going to be. If there is a trade to be had here I'd say be all over that.

My offer is perfect as it stands imo. If we want a young player like Staal you have to pony up, it's going to sting a little but I'm fine with that.

This is a very balanced top line,

Hopefully this doesn't happen. JVR isn't much of an improvement over what we have.

any legit top 6 center would be an upgrade over Bozak. Heck Olli Jokinen would be an upgrade, would probably produce around Staal would and we get to keep the pick. Not sayin, we go after Olli Jokinen but the point just going after Staal because he's an upgrade over Bozak is foolish.

@DD - He doesn't use his size very often. Size loses its worth if you don't use it. Frattin is the same weight, 3 inches smaller, but uses his size much more effectively.

But Frattin has yet to put up any offensive numbers in the NHL.. We're adding a top 6 forward with size who scores goals in the playoffs and gets to the front of the net. Exactly what the Leafs are missing.

He isn't coming here for a number of reasons, not the least of which being the fact that we could easily be out-bid, and with the price they'll ask, Burke would be fine with being out-bid.
