I don't see any point to root for the Kings. Although it seems very possible that they'll win it which would make the Kings one of those teams who started their season in Europe and won the Stanley. It would also put the Sharks in an interesting situation being the only California team without the Cup and for years they have been considered the next one to win it.
1) I always cheer for tougher team, NJ dresses a team that makes Detroit look rugged
2) Already mentioned will hopefully force our owners to spend money in fear of losing more socal nandwagon fans to the Kings
3)NJ is a ****hole
So am I the only one that wants to root for them? I don't know though, if the Devils can come back and win the series it would be pretty fun to watch. God, I'm still on the fence. I'm retracting my support for the Kings. My needs to support the underdog and my loyalty for Californian teams are strong. I tried to make myself go one way, but it just feels forced. Against Vancouver, I liked Vancouver more. Against the Blues, I can't go against Andy Mack. Against the Coyotes, it was easy, I hate Doan. But I like the Devils an equal amount to as much as I like the Kings. Only after watching the game, did I realize this. I'm going neutral.
PS, if this statement seems like it's all over the place, it's because I'm literally typing what I'm thinking off the top of my head, and I'm that conflicted. This shouldn't be that hard of a decision.
There are some funny parallels when you compare this Kings/Devils series to the Ducks/Devils series from 2003.
Both teams had notorious divers as captains (Ducks had Kariya, Kings have Brown).
Both teams had goalies performing at another level (Ducks with Giguere, Kings with Quick).
I guess that's where the likenesses end. The only other missing ingredient is Oleg Tverdovsky, who won a Cup with the Devils in 2003 and his last NHL team was the Kings in 2007.
Take solace in knowing that your team was the first California based hockey team to win a Cup and that the Ducks have reached the Conference Finals more times than the Kings have in their 45 year existence.
NFW am I cheering for the Kings. There are too many bandwagon fans who want their "Showtime" fix now that the Lakers are working on their suntans. Luckily for Kings management the team made it this far so they can "sell" their massive ticket package price increase for next year
No doubt the Kings are a good team and playing great hockey right now, but I'll be cheering for the Devils.
Their fighters are in the press box but they've got plenty of size and grit throughout their lineup. Clarkson, Zubrus, Ponikarovsky are all great along the boards and impossible to knock off the puck, Carter & Bernier are both good hitters. On their blueline Volchenkov is regularly among the league leaders in hitting and Salvador isn't afraid to mix things up either.
You're right that the Kings do have the edge physically but NJ is far from soft. And they've got nobody even close to as much of a ******- bag as Dustin Brown is.
I've got money on the Kings (I make $200 profit if they win) but I still don't want anything to do with them winning. I put the bet on when they were up 3-1 against Phoenix mostly to ease the pain if they did end up winning.
