Why give Bourque a 1-way in the 2nd year of the deal?

Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, June 1, that the club has signed forward Daniel Paille to a three-year contract through the 2014-15 season and forward Chris Bourque to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season. Paille’s contract is worth $1.3 million annually over the three years of his deal. Bourque’s deal will be a two-way contract in year one (2012-13) and is worth $550,000 at the NHL level and $200,000 at the American Hockey League level. In year two, it will be a one-way contract worth $550,000.

Agreed. He may have hands of stone but he contributes all over the ice. Love his work ethic and overall game. Chia did a great job minimizing his raise to just $275,000.

Now if only he can get Soupy to sign for similar money.

Might be Boston's way of saying they want to see more from Caron and that the 13th forward spot is already filled one year from now when Caron's contract is up.

The team may also be looking forward as $550,000 is a cheap 13th forward which they need considering Marchand, Horton, Lucic, and Seguin are all up for contract renewal that year. Pinching pennies where they can.

Great news. A confident Dan Paille is a good hockey player and Julien knows how to keep him feeling good about himself.

The Bruins dangled a carrot in front of Bourque to get his name on the line. At worst he's the best scorer the Bruins have had in Providence since Krejci.

On to Kelly and Pouliot.

Probably so he doesn't bolt to the KHL.

Could be any number of things. It could be more of a motivational thing for him to earn his spot this year. It could also be a very cheap 13th forward option if he ends up performing admirably.

Not that big a deal to be honest tho. If he performs well then hed be at least the 13th forward next year, and if he doenst perform well he just goes through waivers and either gets claimed or gets sent back to Providence. Frankly, if he isnt performing well, they might even want him to get claimed (which could be another reason for the one way, a makeshift "out" for the organization for an extra contract spot).

Happy with that price for Paille. He is a useful player, excellent 4th liner, good on the pk and adds to the team speed.

Wow, great job getting Paille for 3 years at 1.3. He always seems to stand out to me when I see the Bruins play.

So happy Now we need Kelly and Tuukka to sign.

As for C.Bourque's 2-way/1-way, Khudobin got the same type of deal last year and McQuaid the year before. It is very common for those players on the bubble.

If Chris Bourque was unable to obtain some form of a 1-way contract, he likely would have waited for free agency and signed with a team where he would have a better chance to crack the roster.

I'm ok with it. Even if Bourque plays in Providence for both years, he will help that team become relevant and competitive again. I think a terrific AHL player could be worth $500K, especially if he takes the team deep into the playoffs.

I like the Paille signing too. Ideally, Caron would be in Providence for one more year.

Amazed at how the Bruins could get Paille to sign a 3 year deal for $1.3 million. One of the best fourth liners out there.

They would have never traded for him if they didn't feel like there was a good chance he'd sign with them over going to FA.

Now to resign Soupy to retain the best 4th line in the league. Really liking how Chia's determined to keep this team together as much as possible.

Paille is a great value signing fo rthe Bruins.

Bourque is also a good signing, gives them a scoring presence in the AHL and a decent 13th or 14th forward on the depth chart.

Also gets Mr. Ray Bourque more involved with the B's...

Cherellie (sp) is such a great gm Marchands deal last year and Paillie this year he gets them all to sign home town discounts

The Bruins having a great locker room has to be a huge part of the reason Paille signed below market value lets hope Kelly and Campbel think the same way

Stoked about the Paille signing. Only 1.3 for 3 more years? Awesome. Hell of a pker, and even though his hands are lead, I've never seen anyway get more breakaways than him. Chia proves again why he's one of the best in the business.

Fine with the Bourque one, too. Brings Ray closer to the Bruins, and who knows, maybe Chris will fit in. He seemed very excited in his interview. At worst, he's a great AHLer. Providence sucks. We need him. We'll see Spooner and Bourque, (and possibly Knight) owning up the AHL

Great job by the B's re-signing Paille. He's a helluva grinder.

Bourque will spend both years in Providence, aside of maybe some cups of coffee as an injury fill in. The second year of the deal is to ensure he stayed in the system, rather than finding a team willing to give him that one-way year in free agency.

Love Bourque's spirit, but he's simply not an NHL player.

I believe he tried that last year. He then spent time playing in Switzerland before finally coming back to the Capitals. If they are doing this to get on "Ray's" good side, then that doesn't speak to highly for Ray. Last I herd he was trying to help sell luxury boxes for King Jacobs, when he's not at his restaurant.
