Coaching update

Craig Conroy was interviewed in the 1st intermission of the Marlies/Heat game on Rogers TV (Toronto) and mentioned that no interviews have taken place yet. They want to wait until the NHL and AHL playoffs are over so they can interview all prospective candidates.

So don't expect an announcement anytime soon.

So what you are saying is that Craig Conroy is the new coach.

I'm really warming up to the idea of promoting Troy Ward. I was listening to the Fan today, and Feaster commented on an article written in TO which the Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins was quoted as saying he was frustrated playing against the Heat because of their neutral zone play and their ability to block shots. Ward is a great teacher, he's a players coach, and a great motivator. He also has the entire Heat team buying into his system. I wouldn't make my decision contingent on this, but if the Flames do decide to go in the direction and move Iginla, I think without question that Ward would be the best candidate to succeed Sutter The players know him, he's already coached a bunch of the players that will be on the club next season, I think he would have a very good chance at stepping in next season and having success.

I would like to see what the sharks do with Todd mcLellan. He hasn't been given a vote of confidence and I would say if he is let go we should try to get him to coach

He had a team similar to the Flames maybe even more talent and couldnt do much with them . If the flames dont make a lot of moves he would be coaching a team worse than SJ and getting about the same results as this year. If they are keeping this group we need a veteran coach who has a winning track record and wont let the vets off the hook or Ward if the go into a rebuild

I don't mind McLellan. He has a solid record with the Sharks minus the playoffs.

I'd consider McLellan. He has been the coach in San Jose for 4 seasons and led them to a President's trophy one year. This last season was his only down year in terms of expectations, but that could more of a personnel issue than coaching. I don't think he gets let go though, I think he will be given one more year to turn things around.

I'm also wondering if Murray, Martin and even Roy is getting consideration? I'm sure Boughner is on the list as well.

Another coach I have always liked and respected is Larry Robinson, I'm not sure he is interested in coaching right now, but he is definitely an elite coach. Yes he coached in a classic NJ trap system, but I think that is more a product that he was upholding the Devils system. He was always an offensive dman, and I think he would be a fine choice.

Waiting til the playoffs are done makes me really believe they want Troy Ward.

Is it true that Feaster and Bob Hartley are related? Any rumor regarding him to become the new head coach?

Canuck fan coming in peace.

Now that Gillis has been given an extension, it seems like AV will be back with the Canucks. So we won't be hunting for a new coach.

Any interest in MacT? Did well with he young players in Chicago this year. Or is here just too much anti Oil sentiment here.

@Iginlafan

Troy Ward is a good developmental coach. I'm not sure how he would fare in the NHL. I know he's very dedicated.

@KingJet

You heard wrong.

@ SUOMI

Hartley is Feaster's son's godfather. They're very close. If Feaster wants Hartley to be the coach, Hartley will be the coach.

@ddawg1950

I'm sure he'll be considered, as will Crawford. I'm just not sure what direction they're leaning towards right now.

Wow, and here I thought that Iginla was making the executive decisions.

I see by this story that Clouston's not returning to Brandon. He's only been there for one season and still has one more left on his contract.

Any chance he's in the mix somehow? The Wheat Kings' GM seemed to be hinting at some sort of uncertainty about coaching.

Hopefully not for this team.
