Something brewing between Toronto and Philadelphia?

Source: TSN Radio (Toronto)
Date/Time: May 31 at 5:28PM.

Bob McKenzie just hinted that something may be brewing between the Maple Leafs and the Flyers.

Host brought up Bryzgalov and Bob shot that thought down, saying Bryz isn't going anywhere but Philadelphia may be looking to upgrade their backup position (Bobrovsky). It didn't seem like it was Bobrovsky he was talking about either.

That doesn't make any sense to me. So the Flyers want to upgrade their backup but he wasn't talking about Bobrovsky? The backup goalie position is the least of Philly's problems, and I don't see what Toronto has to offer that upgrades or fixes that issue considering that the Leafs have their own problems in net.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the oft mentioned Schenn/JVR swap in one way or another.

there are 2 pieces on philly that burke covets more then any other......b schenn and jvr.

gardiner for b schenn?? both players are about same level of development. trade would address positional needs for both teams. leafs can then replace gardiner with the 5th overall.

or

l schenn for jvr? been rumoured for months now. despite what philly fans say, in my opinion both schenn and jvr have been some what of a let down in their nhl careers based on pre draft hype. the good news is both are very young and both have shown signs of being really good.

(obviously a potential trade good be balanced with additional pieces but imo both are fairly close straight up)

Yes to the first deal.

No to the second.

I hope not. We need to keep Luke Schenn (assuming you're talking about Luke).

So, in other words, the TOR-PHI is NOT about the goaltending, right?

The way I read this, he said there is something up between TML and the Flyers, was asked if it was about the goalies and said no (but mentioned, as an aside, that the Flyers were looking to upgrade the backup position). That would imply the deal is something completely unrelated to goaltending.

Did you hear this first hand? Can you confirm my reading?

No thanks for both deals from the Leafs.

Reimer isn't going anywhere. I don't see why 40 games in which he played good mean nothing but the 30 odd games he played in a year in which he had a concussion mean he is a flash in the pan.

Flyers would go for a more seasoned back-up IMO.

It's probably a JvR for Schenn swap. They both fit what the other team wants to do in the offseason.

Schenn goes to Philly looking to get more defense, JvR goes to a team that said they want to get bigger.

Salaries are also pretty similar.

I don't know how I'd feel about that one. Schenn has had one coach in his NHL career before Carlyle came and he hardly valued defense in his system and he still managed to play two good years...but also had two bad years.

Has nothing to do with Gustavsson. He's a UFA and almost certainly not coming back to Toronto. That being said Philly may be interested in him as a back up to Bryz if they decide to trade Bob.

If Toronto is interested in anyone on Philly it's likely JVR. Can't think of any other prominent player on Philly that Burke would be interested in and Philly would be willing to move. I wonder what it would cost to get him. He definitely won't come cheap.

Yeah, why do people even proposed 3-way trades? They are extremely rare and almost never include 3 big names.

It definitely wouldn't be about goaltending because Burke won't touch Bryz's contract and Bob is not a veteran goalie.

Burke probably goes after Vokoun to mentor Reimer.

So this deal is probably revisiting what was rumored earlier in the season: Schenn for JvR.
