Who is the greatest swedish player ever

Now when Lidström is retired. He retired as one of the greatest swedish player ever to play the game. So a poll would be nice to see who HFboards believes is the greatest ever.

Nicklas Lidstorm is by far the best Swede ever to play, then I had put Forsberg and Sundin in the 2nd and 3rd place.

Best Swedish forward would be Peter Forsberg. Defenseman would be Nicklas Lidstrom.

Lidström is the most successful Swedish player we've ever had....

Some people may think we say that because he just retired and it's so emotional and that crap.
But he's the best we've ever had.

Even tho u can't compare forwards and defensemen...

I agree with the Lidstrom part of the post, but I'm not so sure that Foppa and Sundin were better than Salming.

Landeskog

But seriously, Its Lidstrom or Foppa, and I would give it to Lidstrom, but had Foppa been healthy a little bit longer, this could have changed.

Depends on your criteria.

Overall career? Lidström.

Prime? Forsberg.

I'm having trouble deciding between Forsberg and Lidstrom...

I think I'll take Forsberg just because he had that incredibly rare combination of size, skill, and vision. He could do it all. If you had your head down, you could lay you out. He could stickhandle in a phonebooth, and had the puck on a string when weaving through the offensive zone.

Lidstrom had the better career because he was much healthier, Forsberg was the better player at his prime. Anyone have the video of Forsberg making Lidstrom look like a fool deking him between the legs?

I laughed when I saw a Sedin got a vote...

Anyway, I had trouble deciding between Lidstrom and Forsberg. Went with Lids.

Most successful? Certainly. Greatest, its between him and Börje Salming. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know hockey history. I'm a HUGE Forsberg fan and while he may have had the best prime I would not include him or anyone else in the Swedish GOAT conversation.

Even though I think Lidstrom may have gotten a "reputation" Norris or two that he might not have "deserved", there's still enough to his track record convincing me he's the obvious choice for "greatest" Swedish player ever. 6 Norrises in a decade (+1 in the next), and 9 consecutive 1st team all-star nominations (followed by 2nd, 2nd, 1st leading into this, his retirement year), Conn Smythe, 4 Cup rings... just... wow.

Much appreciation/respect for Salming, Sundin, Alfredsson, and Forsberg, but...

Career: Lidström
Peak: Forsberg
Biggest icon/most beloved: between Sundin and Forsberg, and I guess Salming for the oldies.

How does a guy like Kenny Jonsson make this list? Is there a single person in the world who would vote for him? I bet he himself would even vote for Lids.

Came here to post this.
However, I like that the poll includes players like Tumba.

+1 to Lidstrom career, Forsberg peak. Voted Lidstrom, since I figured it was based on the player's overall career.

Even with all the injuries, Forsberg is 8th all time in points-per-game, and 4th all time in assists-per-game, behind only Gretzky, Lemieux, and Orr. Forsberg in his prime was amazing. Just my opinion though, I know we should never deal with "what ifs" but I still gave my pick to Forsberg.

And why is this poll done right when Lidstrom retires? Obviously there is going to be sentimental bias.
