This.

Roy > Osgood/Howard
Sakic > Datsyuk
Bourque + Blake > whoever the hell Lidstrom played with on D

That's an argument you make for Lidstrom, not against him.

I'm sure you've been ripped apart by your post already, but you deserve to be quoted and shamed once more. Boo!

Floppa made Roy, Sakic, Blake, Bourque great...

ok

Wouldn't that rather make case for Sundin?
I still think its between Lidstrom and Forsberg but Forsberg (as well as Lidstrom) had some elite teammates while Sundin was on his own (compared to Forsberg and Lidstrom) for several years of his career.

Is it really any discussion? Lidstrom hands down. 20 seasons of greatness.

For the history books, Lidstrom. To the Swedish people, Forsberg.

Many have already said how much wrong you are. But I want to comment on this because I don't like when people dont give player respect when they had a great team around them. Some players never seems to get respect because of that I don't get it. For me it just prove how good they are. Lidström have been the best player on a team that is so good just show him how good he is. That he can stand out in that team.

Because if we take the argument to basketball Jordan can never be the greatest because Pippen wasn't just a pedestrian. It just show their greatness.

Cant really compare defenseman and forward but to me Lidstrom is the best swedish player to ever play the game. Apart from having fantastic career he was so consistent and durable that it just amazes me. That makes him better than Forsberg.

I think I'll take Forsberg just because he had that incredibly rare combination of size, skill, and vision. He could do it all. If you had your head down, you could lay you out. He could stickhandle in a phonebooth, and had the puck on a string when weaving through the offensive zone.
Not to nitpick, I know Forsberg was very strong physically but he didn't have incredibly rare size... 6"0 205-210. Thats nothing special.

This is what I came in here to post, peak is definitely debatable and career isnt close. Lidstrom was putting up ~70 points a year, inlcuding and 80 point in 80 game season while being the best defensive player in the league.

And why is this poll done right when Lidstrom retires? Obviously there is going to be sentimental bias.
Hes that high because of injuries. Lots of guys had 8 seasons of their career that would just as high but those guys actually stayed healthy and played when their points started to taper off. Those 20 game seasons for Forsberg made it so he didnt have to deal with the everyday wear and tear of the average NHLer

It's Lidstrom but I voted with my heart on this one and picked Peter. He's really just such a fundamental part of what made me fall in love with Hockey and start playing the sport as a kid. Even though I've come to have amazing respect for Lidstrom as I've grown older and totally agree that his accomplishments blow every else on this list's out of the water, I just had to vote for Foppa since greatest is such a subject term.

Better player?

Peter Forsberg and it's not even close. Anyone who saw Peter in his prime wouldn't question that statement. Lidström had a far better career though, but Peter in his prime could tunnel Lidström without trying. And Lidström could never lift his teammates like Forsberg. With Forsberg you automatically got a +40 goal-scorer.
