Looks like Niklas Kronwall's brother voted twice as of the time of this posting.

Voted Seidenberg, but it was close for me between him and girardi.

LOL Macdonald?

If the Islanders had 3 top 50 defenders, I don't think they would be in the basement

I agree. He's a lot like Hamhuis, but without the offensive upside yet. He'll likely be one of the best in a few seasons but I think there are many more dynamic defensemen to choose from.

With that said, I voted for Kronwall.

McDonagh was 7th in the league in even strength points. I'd say he's at Hamhuis' level now, which tons of room to grow still.

I don't understand how Kronwall is getting votes and Burns isn't. They got about the same number of points, but Burns is better defensively.

There's a lot of variance when it comes to ES scoring from defensemen. For instance, Bieksa was #2 in that category during the season with 34, while he hadn't scored more than 20 for ages. That would be for two reasons - one, he's excellent at cycling the puck, pinching in a timely fashion and making passes from his zone (his offensive tools). Second, he was nearly always on the ice at the same time as the Sedins or Kesler lines.

But he simply isn't much of a PMD as his vision and passing in the O-zone isn't really elite and has one of the team's worst shots. He's a useful one during ES, but not as much in the PP. You can't disregard a defenseman's ability to perform in special teams since it's an integral aspect of scoring.

I wouldn't say McD plays a game identical to Bieksa's, but that's more or less my point.

Went with Hamhuis. But can't go wrong with McD, Kronwall or Girardi either.

I would agree with you, the NYR system makes him look better than he actually is at this point.

Voted for Hamhuis myself, great defender and puck mover out of the zone perfect for todays game.

Think Girardi should of been in a few picks ago. One of the best if not THE best shutdown D in the league.

He's been dominant since he came up a year and a half ago. I think we're beyond shiny new toy. Kreider is a shiny new toy type of guy.
