Blues acquire a legit 1C who has been outgrown his 3C role in PIT. Despres is a well developed LH prospect to get paired with Pietro.
Pens acquire a good winger for Crosby, and top-4 D. Also they unload some cap space.
Lets see. Jordan is a 1B center, not 1A. Despres has no chance of starting on the top pair right away, let alone ever getting there.
Tarasenko is IMO the most skilled prospect I know that isn't playing in the NHL, and know he has agreed to sign a contract with the Blues. Shattenkirk is a great OFD that isn't a liability in defence. Blues are good with getting good prospects in later half also. (Tarasenko, Schwartz, etc.)

and all the trade Staal threads are based on the premise that he doesn't want to remain here as a 3rd center. 99% of pens fans would prefer to keep him if that is an option.

Pens fans only want to trade Staal if he makes it clear he wants a bigger role. I'm not sure you can write off Despres as never becoming a top pair guy. I don't see the Blues moving Tarasenko until they've seen what he's capable of in the NHL.
Why do we keep adding stuff to a simple benefitial deal,where both teams deal from strengths (a center for a winger), and then fight about it? Pens are happy with giving Despres his fair shake, he is ready, and don't need more D (unless it's Edler ), they definitely don't need picks. I still vote something with Staal and Oshie.
Blues pass easily. Staal is not a legit #1 center yet and may never be more then a 2nd line center. I would love Staal on the Blues but not at that price.

Must be poor reading comprehension on your part regarding the constant trade proposals about JS and Pens fans views. I would say at least 90%, if not more, prefer first to sign Staal!! Every Pen's fan wants to trade him??? Get real!!!

I think every Pens fan wants to re-sign, and with the cap going up and if it stays up, the more and more likely we will re-sign Staal.
Not worth what it'd take to acquire Tarasenko. He holds huge value for the Blues as a big potential cheap forward. I'd imagine they look at him as a McDonald replacement.
Id do Staal+Harrington+ for Oshie+Stewart. Assuming Staal has an extension in the works with the Blues. And I believe Staal holds a Oshie+1st type value.
I wouldn't trade Shattenkirk for Staal straight up. Staal can walk in a year and Shattenkirk's rights are held for another five, plus the fact that he's clear top-four D with room to improve. And I definitely wouldn't trade Tarasenko for Despres straight up. So I don't see how your formula works.
I still do not get why Despres and Shattenkirk are even in the equation. Blues obviously and understandably do not want to give up Shattenkirk and Pens are set at D unless a LH top pairing defenseman younger and better than Orpik comes up to be the light of Letang's life for the next 10 years.
Not that I would not take an effective Dman on an ELC for free, but I have zero interest in trading Staal (or Despres) for one.
This should be Staal for STL winger+ and I am not even close to pushing for that winger to be Tarasenko.
