Sharks fans definitely over hype Couture. He is already an outstanding player and has a bright future but comparing him to Toews and Kopitar is insane. These are top 10 players in the NHL right now that are only a year older than Couture. I think expecting Couture to become that is crazy and unfair to Couture.
Toews and Kopitar are not top-10 players in the NHL....

In no particular order:
Crosby
Ovechkin
Stamkos
Malkin
Giroux
Sedin
Sedin
Datsyuk
Perry
Thornton
Chara
Karlsson
Weber

David Jones is officially off the market. The quest for a righty for Thornton continues...

That being said, do you expect this to be after July 1 or a draft-day event?
Draft day is my bet, or before. I have a feeling DW is basically waiting for the finals to end to get started.

My first choice? Well that's a complicated answer. Depends who needs to be replaced. Since we are likely getting Nash, we don't really need Jones anyway in that sense. If we can get Parise, of course he'd come first. If you are talking in Jones range, and UFA only, then Jones isn't a bad option, but he's only a 40 point player. He'd be a third line tweener in my eyes, not a top-6 solution. Frankly I'd rather take a shot at Semin than Jones, at least he fills the need better.

If we are trading I would rather go after sell lows like Stewart, maybe JVR (depending on the cost), or players like that.

I consider Toews insanely over-hyped. He's a good player, but I don't see him as a top-10 forward let alone a top-10 player.

Perry is one season removed from the Richard and Hart.... give me a break. I hate the guy, but one poor season does not diminish his ability. I blame most of this season on Getzlaf being worthless.

Dont like it. If DW fields this team he has got to know that we are not going anywhere.

Still have Murray and Handzus slowing us down. Plus we still have Clowe slowing down the top 6.

Murray and Clowe are UFA's next year so their value isnt real high. This leads me to believe that they will still be with the team.

And DW wont piss off ownership by buying out Handzus, so unless he decides to waive, he'll be a shark next year.

I'm not happy with the lack-luster moves in my line-up either, but it just screams DW. It's either this line-up, or one that features Rick Nash and no depth on the 3rd & 4th lines

Honestly, it doesn't feel like DW to me at all. No knee jerk moves, no copycating, no Rick Nash.

I'm going to go all-in and make a couple guarantee's as I see them:

1) One (or both) of Clowe or Pavelski will be traded.
2) One (or both) of Moore and Winnick will be re-signed
3) Murray will be traded
4) Niemi or Greiss will not be on the team next season.
5) Handzus will not be on the team next season one way or another.

I think those are all pretty safe bets. I almost want to add:

6) Rick Nash will be a Shark.

But that's slightly out of DW's control.

Now I don't want to trade couture but if we somehow landed both Nash and Iginla that would be insane!!

Marleau - Thornton - Nash
Havlat - Pavelski - Iginla
Clowe - .....

Just predicting, not advocating. I won't be shocked in the slightest if Pavelski is traded. Pissed, but not shocked.

I find it hard to compare D-men to forwards so I will stick to forwards. Malkin Giroux Stamkos and Crosby are in a class of their own. After that group and Datsyuk a case can be made for a large number of players. I think I would take Kopitar but I totally understand why someone might take someone else. Toews is over rated (Buci of ESPN had him as the #2 player in the world lol) but he is at least in the conversation. Couture is not in that conversation. If he ever gets to that point I will be extremely happy.

Irrelevant, you said 'top 10 player', not 'top 10 forward'.

Kopitar is hot right now cause he's about to win the cup, but that doesn't make him a top-10 player. I think he's got the talent, but he's never been able to maintain that high a level of play long-term.

Anyway, its not relevant at all to the point I was making anyway. You are arguing semantics that would not effect my point either way. My point was Couture has the talent to be a cup winning #1 center if he's got the right line mates. If Krejci can do it, so can Couture. I absolutely think Couture has the talent to match Toews as well, but it's not relevant to the point.

Couture can be Krejci. They are different style players but I have no problem equating them.

Do you honestly think Couture can be a PPG player and the #1 PK forward on a great team? Do you think he can be the best forward on a team that wins the cup? That is what Toews and Kopitar are and have been for a couple years now.

(see how i jynxed the kings there )

It's unfair to write off Couture already. Kopitar has played 6 full seasons and Couture just finished his 2nd. The year Toews won, that team was absolutely stacked and the Blackhawks haven't been that great since then. Also none of them have been PPG.
