Parise is obviously my first choice on getting a top 6 basically because he's a FA and wouldn't cost us anything except cap space.

Now other teams will be in on that if he doesn't sign with Jersey so the odds are probably slim for Ottawa.

As for Nash, I'd definitely be interested in getting. Depends on what Columbus wants for him, which I'm sure would be too much for what us fans are wanting to part with, but I would be willing to give up a little more to have him on Spezza's wing.

Yup I edited the post cause I wanted to see what people would come up with. Not convinced thus far.

Does anyone remember the days we kept giving away draft picks and prospects to win the cup? Worked wonders didn't it?

I'd suggest that 11 straight playoff appearances is pretty wonderful.

You are also seeking to draw a comparison between trade deadline acquisitions and Rick Nash.

Deadline guys are rentals, Rick Nash is signed long term.

Apples...Oranges.

I had the same vision except he was going to San Jose, and in return Columbus got Marleau+, as much as I would love to have Nash on the Sens, he is not part of the rebuild, and neither is Parise (yet everyone brings him up for some reason). Sens will look for a solid d main to replace the aging Gonchar while letting the boys take over on the offensive end.

Now I am just speculating but I am pretty sure Parise wants to play for an American team, like Detroit, Minny or New Jersey or whatever. He is in the drivers seat and I doubt Ottawa is plugged into his GPS.

True that. Take the package you would give up for Nash (Zibanejad++++) and see which defenseman you could land with it. Probably a really good one.

I love when people say "year 1 of a 3 year rebuild"...

Like the Murrays never Thought they'd built a contender before... They tried to sell that we were a contender until last season. Now all of a sudden this "3 year rebuild" is the best thing since sliced bread.

I wish you guys would stop trying to sell the farm for Nash, there's no way he fetches the outrageous prices you've all been listing when there's a comparable for players of his talent moved twice in the last year.

I'll just list the first deal and this players career numbers.

Philadelphia Flyers traded Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Jakub Voracek, a first-round draft pick and third-round draft pick.

That doesn't look like Z-bad, Stone, 1st rounder and roster player to me..

Year Team League GP G A PTS +/- PPG PPA SHG SHA GWG PIM Shots PCT Hits

2004-05 Philadelphia AHL 3 0 1 1 -1 0 - 0 - 0 4 13 .00 -

Notice the career highs? I can't believe some people around here are willing to mortgage the future for nash and his massive contract but wouldn't give up a 3rd last year for a very similar player in carter with a better contract and just as much proven ability.

Calm down already guys..

Some of us (me) wanted Carter. But people were insistant that he had an attitude problem.
Bishop/lehner + zibanejad + stone seems like an over payment because they are prospects. What if i said 1st + 2nd + 6th rounders for first overall? Little more reasonable?
*note i do not want to give up too much for Nash.

I bet an offer of either Bishop/Lehner + our first and a b prospect like Cleasson or Petersson could get Nash. I dont think the price is as steep as it once was.

The only reasons Nash proposals are so outrageous is that Howson will be looking to cash in as much as possible for Rick Nash: from what I gather Nash is the one who wants out more than CBJ want to go full rebuild...
So basically Howson is in no rush to deal Nash away: he's going to be asking for a ton.

I'd definitely be looking into getting Nash if I was Murray: he's the kind of guy that would mesh extraordinarly well with Spezza. I wouldn't sell the farm for him but I expect Murray to go hard after him.

that's not even close to fair for Columbus. There isn't a single player in that package who is a surefire NHL player...

A- We are rebuilding. We arent giving up 6 assets for 2 players. Especially with 1 being old.

B- You think Melnyk wants to add 14M in salary??

C- We are not on Rick Nash's list

D- That 3rd line is a huge risk

E- That defense sucks

F- Foligno wont sign for 2M/year

G- Gryba isnt an NHL defenseman

Anything else?

Defense is where the team needs the most help right now. There are a lot of young forward prospects and out of the lot I would expect at least 3 to become NHL regulars and at least 1 of them to become a top 6 forward.

If I'm Murray I'm looking at the rangers who are stacked on young D and who will be wanting to acquire some assets to deal for Nash so they don't deplete their system too much if they get him.

I would offer 15th pick plus Puempel + Butler + Wiercioch for Marc Staal.

Can't see the rangers saying yes to that but if so I don't see how anyone could say no.

All valid opinions, but as was stated above by another poster you missed the part about an armchair GM having some fun.

I'll entertain your opinions however for the sake of discussion:

A- We are rebuilding. We arent giving up 6 assets for 2 players. Especially with 1 being old.
Don't you think it's possible giving up those assets for these players might shift the focus from rebuild to win and put us in a position of strength for several years to come? I'm not saying it would, my crystal ball isn't working at the moment. Just entertain the thought.

B- You think Melnyk wants to add 14M in salary??
I think any owner would like to add Stanley Cup revenue... if moves like these were possible and it put them in that position I can't see why not.

C- We are not on Rick Nash's list
I'm not sure I've ever seen the official list, just many speculated versions. The list may prove less important in the long run anyway if good enough offers don't come in. We don't know.

D- That 3rd line is a huge risk
Agreed, it is. Lots of potential but you're right it is risky.

E- That defense sucks No disagreement here.
Perhaps a stronger roster would help attract higher quality UFAs?

F- Foligno wont sign for 2M/year
I guess I underestimated his worth. Add more then.

G- Gryba isnt an NHL defenseman
Right again. That's why he's at the bottom as a call up. Maybe another player would be better suited.

Having Nash and Iginla on the team would put a huge demand on season tickets. We averaged 19k in attendance this year. We could easily sell out every game having the extra star power.

But I do think the rangers might valid dancing partners though. They need forward prospects and we'll need someone to replace gonchar on the second line after his contract is up. What would it take to get Erixon?
