He had the worst playoff of any starting goalie in something like 30 years.

Why would it shock you to move such player?
Because Fleury had clearly been over-played throughout the season because of largely how poorly our back-up goalie options were. This allows the team to keep Fleury fresh and give Vokoun 30 games during the season

I like this move. Definitely looking like he's not ****ing around this offseason.

that's one big insurance, in terms of salary, for the regular starter who makes 5 millions to begin with...

Oh yay more trade Fleury fuel. Give HF an inch we'll take a mile. They needed a backup, there's not too many out there so they paid extra to secure a good one. He'll probably play a little more than Johnson did but other than that that's all it is.

Their best option is to find a reliable backup to lighten the load and possibly take the job if we reach March and Fleury is playing poor. Vokoun could fill in for a year giving them enough time to land a real replacement.

This was not a good thing for Fleury fans, trust me. Hes on borrowed time now. He can't have an offseason like hes had for the last 3 years.
This is dumb. Fleury was great last season...but extremely overworked and it showed in the playoffs. Goldfish brains around here forget that he was a workhorse for big chunks of the year and only remember the first round of the playoffs where he was admittedly brutal.

Shero isn't going to move Fleury. We are very strong. I definitely think Martin has a big time chance to be moved now. Shero wants to sure positions up and it doesn't look like he cares to waste money.

And I'm not trying to take us off-topic, but signing Vokoun proves he wants to win now. I've been on record saying Shero will stand pat, but he really proved me wrong here.

Anyone else just counting the days til the draft now?

With that contract you'd think we'll have to move out somebody else, not that we don't hope "somebody" gets moved this offseason anyway...

What about TK? Exact same cap hit...

EXCELLENT move

This should be interesting.... to see how a very capable goaltender in Vokoun plays with our defense in front of him.

I think you will be very impressed with Vokoun. We don't realize how much a solid defense insulates Fleury.

I could see Shero trying to draft Subban now maybe and then Fleury is gone? Just a hunch.

you guys really amaze me some times with the MAF hate. Yes, his post season sucked, but he did have an MVP regular season...this is a good deal for us. Now, hopefully we can address the blueline & be good to go for next season....

Going to be interesting at the draft if indeed we pick a goalie with our 1st assuming Subban is still available

1. Nobody will trade two 1sts for Fleury unless they are low picks.

2. Oilers won't trade the first overall for any amount of low 1st round picks.

3. How is Harding any better than Fleury?

4. With Vokoun getting older, we would be stuck with Harding as our starter and who knows what will come of him in the future.

5. Fleury/Vokoun is a great duo if they both pull their weight.

I still think Shero will do everything possible to move Martin and let a guy like Despres be a full timer

Yeah that'd make a whole helluva lot of sense. Please make it stop with these crazy ass Fleury trade thoughts. It's not happening and so many of you STILL don't understand how few legit starters there are in this league.

Z and Tomáš are good friends. Wouldn't surprise me if he made a little pitch for him.

I like it, at least it's not Hašek..

I wouldn't worry about that. These guys are professionals and every one of them has to compete for their position on the ice every September, and MAF shouldn't be excluded from that as he has been. If he handles it well, in his usual upbeat way, I think this will be good for him and the team. It can make him a better player as long as the competition isn't toxic, which I don't think you'll get that from Vokoun.

There is some truth to this. Lots of good angles to this move IMO.

Don't break my heart. Besides I feel like Toronto would make a pretty good deal since now they have to hope for loungo.

lol MVP regular season. the .913 save% begs to differ. More like average regular season and historically terrible playoffs.
