And know I don't consider Cox a legit source, he just loves drama.
2 years difference eh...pretty stupid speculation....how hard would they be to background check?
Yeah its been out there for 3 months, but many people just brushed it off as a silly rumour, as did I and still do. But now we have a GM who talking about it, albeit an anonymous one. Maybe its postering to bring Grig's value down by telling this to a reporter so this aforementioned GM can get a shot at selecting him or maybe he believes it. In any case, a seed has been planted.
I don't give Cox's opinion much weight at all and in fact, i loathe him but this is a quote from a GM, not Cox himself. And Cox is certainly not the first to allude to this rumor.
When the rumor started, it mentioned that his documents are forged, which is why a background check may not be enough and why it would have passed IIHF review.
Maybe its all a marketing ploy. Nothing like controversy to drum up some interest for draft weekend.
Well on the + side for the next 12 days or so my biggest "want" is Justin Schultz and I was going back through his 2008 player blog and he does list the Canucks as his favourite NHL team growing up (and Scott Neidermayer as his favourite player).

This is what I have to say about it: absolute and utter ******** of a rumour. It's all based on two things from the people I've talked to and everything I've read: 1) his mother works at a government office in his city, 2) he was 6'2" when he was 14. Ridiculous.
Just to compare it to the same cases in soccer — the rumours usually start when somebody starts saying that they used to play with a particular player when they were younger or that they went to school with them. Grigorenko attended elementary and secondary school in Russia, he played in a ton of different leagues, and yet there's not a single source for this rumour? His family probably has a large circle of friends. Do they not remember when the kid was born?
Looks like Dalton Thrower fell off the Top 30... Looking like Slater Koekkoek is our frontrunner now.
Koekkoek will likely be gone by our pick. If Thrower is going to be available in Round 2, I would be very happy to see us trade down and try and grab him plus another prospect at that stage.

This draft it seems better to have a bunch of 2nd round picks, so many tweeners between the 1st and the 2nd round. I would trade the our first for 2x 2nd so we could potentially have 3x 2nd picks.

More and more i'm hoping that we manage to snag either Scott Laughton, who absolutely fits the direction Gillis seems to want to take this team, with smart well-rounded players and a bit of a physical edge, or Pontus Aberg. To me, Aberg just seems an awful lot like a better version of what Rodin sort of 'projected' as. That sort of pure natural goal scoring winger that we could use in our system.

It's hard when you know for sure that there's going to be trades in the first round with teams moving up or down for their player.

I cannot foresee a scenario where TOR passes on Grigorenko at 5. They _need_ a future 1st line C option desperately. It's either Galchenyuk or Grigorenko. Maybe Forsberg if he's the one to drop. They won't take Reilly.
Other than that, pretty decent mock. Di Guiseppe is a decent choice, but I'm not sure about taking players that rely more on skating to create space rather than hockey sense and positioning. League play is grinding down to a halt. Every inch of ice is being contested, not a lot of room to free wheel. As a result, I'm not sure it's best to go this route anymore.
Personally, I think Lukas Sutter will have a better NHL career than Henrik Samuelsson. For those who don't remember the Sutter brothers as players... they all had "rat-like" tendencies, but they were also as tough as nails, and always gave 110%... some of them could even score.
As for people worried about Sutter's size... honestly, I'm more concerned with Thrower's.

I agree. Who has multiple 2nd's or a high 2nd and 3rd, who'd conceivably want the 26th pick?
Just a potential situation here, I have a feeling tbay is going to trade down with there 19th pick and get Subban late in the first round. Id trade our first and our 3rd/4rth for the 19th. Maybe steal a Koekkoek.
