He's got a big wingspan so he is a good shot blocker but his rebounding defensive rebounding needs more effort because offensively he's good at grabbing them. His athleticism and wingspan along with Casey's coaching could make him a good defender.

As for the first selection I would of rather picked Lamb or traded down a few spots, but at least we addressed an issue. Could have been worse like Drummond who is overrated IMO. All he has going for him is well he can move for his size, which won't be such an advantage against NBA players. He isn't a good shooter and sucks at free throws.

Wish college basketball would be starting up right now, so much better to watch than today's NBA.
There's no way Acy plays SF in the NBA. He'll be a PF, used in an energy role like Reggie Evans.

At first I was pretty pissed off, but I guess if they're going to pass on someone like Quincy Miller, it's good that they did it to draft someone like Acy who could, possibly, become someone like Reggie Evans.

Shawn Marion just tweeted that he's heading for Toronto.

Make of it what you will. It could easily be just a visit or he might be coming in to join his brother Steve Nash. It would have to be a trade, though.

I think Nash, for sure, is Toronto bound on July 1st. One of the first signings.

Marion is that SF that BC is talking about getting. He's a veteran and will add to our already sound defensive team under Casey.

Valanciunas
Bargnani
Marion
DeRozan
Nash

I don't mind it at all.

I don't think Ross plays SF in the NBA. I think his skills are best utilized at the 2.

Regarding the "what do we do with DeRozan" question, I think we rotate him and Ross. DeRozan isn't a stud SG that needs to be out there 35-40 minutes a game. Let him earn it and give him some help backing him up.

What we need to do now is add some decent players via free agency and trade.

We can't sit there and be like "Ross and JV, we're done".

We need to add an SF for sure. JJ and Kleiza are not good options there.

There are a few opportunities through trade to improve the team. Iggy is rumored to be on the block. Denver has like 7 SF's and SG's.

I don't think anyone, Colangelo included, is really excited about it. He's not a bad pick given what was left, but the draft/entire season didn't play out well for the Raptors.

Who is worst GM? Burke or BC? They both make the dumbest moves and draft the worst. Both talk big and do nothing and make mistake after mistake. Thats a tough call!

EHHHHHHHHHH.... Not a bad pick I guess.

At least you can get a jersey with "Ross" on the back which isn't bad... Other than that... I don't know man I would have traded down 4-5 spots...

Nobody would have taken our man and if they did we would still end up with a good prospect..

9: Drummond
10: Rivers
11: Leonard (Portland is taking him no matter what IMO)
12: Lamb
13: Marshall

All these guys are great consolations if someone takes Ross but even then I doubt a team takes Ross and we could have nabbed him at any of these spots.

What do I know though, maybe the Raptors tried to move down.

Ross can be a very good 6th man. The Raptors look to be on the verge of becoming a playoff team; hopefully we can land a SF.

he posted a followup saying he's just going to TO to meet up with some friends because he hasn't been in a while, not that it has anything to do with the Raptors.

I figured.

Anyone take a guess what vet SF could be had at FA who can fit in with our group.

I would absolutely love a guy like Josh Smith but its a long shot. Will take a lot to acquire as well.

OJ Mayo to become a UFA. Any interest in him for the 3 spot should he come somewhat cheap?

In my opinion, Mayo is more of a 2.

I'd love it, but with Mayo becoming a UFA it appears Rudy is staying put.

He's not even much of a 2. He's like a 1 that desperately wants to be a 2 because he lacks the skills to play the point.

OJ Mayo and Michael Beasley are the ultimate arguments against investing big in tweener 1/2 and 3/4 players.

Got a good laugh out of someone on twitter on the right side of that link calling Acy "Pops-Reggie Dorsey". That actually sounds about right though.

I don't like the fact managment seems to be focusing all their efforts on Nash. We still don't have anything close to a point guard of the future. Nash has 2 or so good years left but he will only carry this team into a 6/7/8 playoff spot and we'd be back to where we were with Bosh and company.

I really wanted Lowry...

Let's be honest: regardless of who teh Raptors selected, the highlight of last night was the unfortunate inability of ESPN reporters to properly say the phrase "bulging disc" when talking about Sullinger's back issues.

Looks like the Solomon Alabi era has officially come to an end.

Quote:
Eric Smith ‏@Eric__Smith

Colangelo said Alabi will not be given a qualifying offer. Thus he'll be a UFA. Said Alabi may still join the ‪#Raptors‬ summer league squad

Anyone know where I can find a video recap of the first round, or at least the Raptors pick?

Not surprising. He was never really that great even in a developmental role, could never be trusted for anything more than garbage minutes, and Quincy Acy probably just took his spot as the end-of-the-bench/d-league shuttle guy.

Raps website has the pick and some interviews with BC and Casey. ESPN also has some draft review stuff too.

EDIT: also, seeing it for the first time last night, the Bobcats logo with the new light blue on it instead of orange is incredibly fugly.
