Even if they traded Lopez, Brooks, Gerald Green, and Kris Humphries along with picks to the Magic, they still won't have enough money to take Howard and still fill out the rest of the roster at the league minimum (along with other guys they have under contract next year like Reggie Evans or Euroleague signee Mirza Teletovic)

there are a couple of minor miracles that could happen to allow this to go through, but they aren't likely. And this also assumes that Orlando wouldn't care about getting extra value out of a Howard trade by saddling Brooklyn with crap contracts as payment for taking Dwight (crap contracts like Hedo or Chris Duhon).

and they most likely won't be able to clear the deck by next off-season either to get him as a FA unless he'll take peanuts.

So good job Brooklyn. You just ****ed up your own master plan.
Mikhail Prokhorov (Nets owner) already said that he is willing to pay the luxury tax, so the Nets will be able to keep Dwight and sign some good bench players next offseason.

For Nash it mught represent his best chance to win a ring.
Apparently Lakers wanted to do a sign and trade with Artest for Nash, but PHX doesn't want Artest. Who else could Lakers really offer?

Nash, please go get a ring, then come to Toronto for the hell of it.

The New York Knicks continue to pursue free-agent point guard Steve Nash, offering a sign-and-trade package headlined by young guard Iman Shumpert, sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.
Man, If Nash signs elsewhere it's sure going to be interesting watching the reactions. BC better have a back up plan (Not Jeremy Lin..) because if we come out of this summer with just Landry Fields...

From what I understand, thanks to some of the moves they've made, they're limited in how far into the luxury tax range they can go. And that's the barrier they're up against with Howard: because of certain contracts they've handed out (it has something to do with using "non-taxpayer" mid-level exception or bi-annual exception contracts, whatever that means), they've essentially activated against a hard cap for themselves and are just a few million dollars away from hitting it, and not enough of a gap to be able to accommodate Howard's contract even if they rid themselves of every movable contract on the books.

The NBA salary cap is a confusing, twisty mess with all of its exceptions and workarounds and shifting thresholds and whatnot.

Nash and the Knicks are in the critical stages of discussions on a three-year deal worth between $27 million-$30 million to be executed through a sign-and-trade deal with the Suns. The Knicks would send rookie guard Iman Shumpert and multiple players – including Toney Douglas – to Phoenix for Nash, sources said.

This probably kicks off the Colangelo death watch in Toronto. This is a very public embarrassment for MLSE.

Not hating.

Just stating what I think will happen. It's like sayin JMFJ

And people hating on BC for the Fields signing - it was a good move. Sometimes the risks you take don't pan out. It's not even that bad.

Who knows, maybe Fields can turn it around. Knicks fans seem to think getting Carmelo somewhat screwed up his development.

Considering Fields can't officially sign the offer sheet until July 11th, the Raps can still rescind it, so no harm done.

And watch them sign somewhere else?

Let's just face reality, if Nash (a candian icon) won't sign here for more money why would Curry or Lawson. Why would their current teams let them go?

The only FAs this team can get are the mediocre ones and we have to overpay to get them (Kleiza/Kapono/Fields). This is why I've been on TankCity, let us get our Durants and Westbrooks and build a winning contending team around them. Not this half ***** retool on the fly crap.
