FALSE - Rumour about Burke being fired.

Not true.

TSN and various other sources ... close thread.

He was the Leafs' leading scorer in the 196364, 196667 and 196970 seasons, and the team's top goal scorer in 197071 and 197273. Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era.[3] He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 197071, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.

People need to stop talking about it. They aren't going to fire Burke right before the draft. And they won't fire him after he does the draft. Non-sense. If they were going to fire him, it would've happened long ago.

Baseless rumours will continue to be closed so people should just avoid starting topics about it unless it's someone substantial reporting it.

Bryan Colangelo has been in TO for 6 years and still hasn't been fired. I think Burke still has a long leash.

Even though people in position to know dismissed the talk about Burke, once credible people in the NHL started asking questions it was necessary to revisit the matter and approach Burke.

Thus a short, uncomfortable conversation with Burke became necessary on Sunday. The question of a leave or resigning was put to him and he denied it.

"This is a serious question?" Burke said. "No, it's never been discussed."

Burke also said he is not considering any sort of hiatus from his job. "The answer is no," he said.

As for the gossip about his private life, Burke said he was aware of it and said there "was nothing to it." He declined further comment. At that point, after internal discussions at The Globe and Mail, it was decided there was no story.

----------------------------

MLSE chairman Larry Tanenbaum is travelling this week and was not available for comment. But an MLSE source said Wednesday, "This is an example of the media going crazy. Brian Burke is not about to be fired. He is fully engaged."

This should be stickied. I feel he may even be extended next Winter if we're in the same position nest seas. (pre collapse) I doubt he walks or gets fired.

I don't think Burke is going to be fire this offseason but..... he's on his last toe though, with new ownership coming in and Burke having at best questionable results I would think he's on a very tight leash, if the leafs miss the playoffs next years he's IMO gone by April 2013.

Burke has done some amazing things here, his trades have all been made of win, and he's done a good job at restocking the propsect pool. That being said his free agent targets have been horrible (outside of Macarthur) and he has failed to address two very critical needs since arriving here which are goaltending and a top notch centre. We were 24th overall the year before he arrived and were a lottery team which is even worse 4 years into his tenure, sorry but that doesn't cut it, and he should be fired if he doesn't get this team into the playoffs this season.

I believe because a new thread on the B.S. is being made every couple hours. Preemptive mod strike, and well played too.

While the article itself has really no business being talked about the speed at which threads get erased would lead one to believe that being critical of a media outlet is not to be tolerated.

The Simmons article has generated 2 other mainstream stories one by Shoalts ( in the rival Globe) defending print media by explaining the why the story was done, and Puck Daddy calling out the hypocracy of what is a source for MSM vs Blogs.

I'd think this would make it a bigger topic than whatever you would feel about the truth of the rumor or about Burke. The real question to be discussed is what standards should fans/ general public hold the media to? Where do you draw the line?

Burkie isn't going anywhere, He came here with absolutely nothing, and has built us into a good team(that under performed last year), I think Burke still has 2 or 3 years left on his leash, because like someone said above BC has been with the raps for 6 years, lost the teams BP(Bosh) and has really done nothing to help that team. Burke has something going here, it would be a shame to get rid of him now.
