I feel bad for the Oilers. They're not getting home town discounts or bridge contracts. If Yakupov and Schultz get 6 million each too, that's 30 million tied into 5 players, which is a little more than 20% of their roster. Unless they anticipate the cap to be near 100 million pretty soon, that's not good news.

Ryan was so happy, he did a Tiger Woods-esque fist-pump. Team officials say his injuries appear to be not too severe, and that they hope his shoulder will be ready for the start of the season.

That's actually not too bad, especially since they're all pretty dynamic players. Cap should be 70M or so within a couple of years, so they'd have roughly 40M+ to fill out the rest of the roster. More than enough really. More of a concern I think would be injury history of Hopkins and Hall.

That's just stupid, yes he most likely will be worth that cap hit one day but we are talking about a kid that has only played 100 nhl games and has suffered 2 major injuries. He has been an effective player for them but we don't know if he is a ppg type of centerman or .75 ppg centerman. All I can say is I hope to god that this doesn't become a thing.

Sather is saying, Lowe did I not teach you anything? What's the point in that signing?

Oh man that's brutal. I'm so glad we have our management team that we do, the Oilers would of paid Brodie 5.5. Our rebuild will go much better than theirs.

I'm not saying he won't be that good I am saying there is to much risk for that kind of a deal for a player that has had 2 major injuries.

I don't think either there's been a near enough sample size to award that kind of deal. His draft status got him that money. We should be happy about this, it's going to hurt their franchise.

I really hope Calgary doesn't stop using bridge contracts.

I don't think so, the way the Flames and Oilers do business is very different. At least I hope so.

depends who it is I think. I think we see someone like Monahan get that type of deal, but if Klimchuk and Poirier look to be panning out at the end of their ELCs they will get bridge deals.

The Jets released Ian White from his PTO.

And to think, three and a half years ago, he was the centre piece in the Phanuef trade.

Oiler's have named Andrew Ference as captain.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=433025

I think it is a good choice, he has won the cup and is a hard worker.

Opening night!!

Maple Leafs 4 - Canadiens 3

Casting a dark shadow over the game was the George Parros injury, that was a very scary moment. If you never saw Parros was fighting Colton Orr and when Orr fell Parros tumbled over top of Orr and smashed his face on the ice knocking him out cold. The blow was directly to the chin Parros was unable to get to his feet and taken off the ice on a stretcher. On a lighter note, Eller had an amazing game. He scored 2 goals and assisted on the other Habs goal, his 2nd goal was a breakaway beauty.

Capitals 4 - Blackhawks 4 [9:41 left in 3rd]

Grabovski is stealing the show with 3 goals and an assist.

Jets 1 - Oilers 1 [5:45 left in 1st]

Gazdic scored his 1st NHL goal for the Oilers.

That Parros incident was terrible but Orr was all class about it. He's been there before. It look like the video Orr tried to pull him down with him and Parros was just not prepared, complete accident but in my opinion why were they fighting for the second time anyway. Ashton was already engaged in it with Tinordi.

Judging by the goals scored by Winnipeg this first period, these are the same old Oilers that we know and love.

Anyone surprised?
The oil might win tonight... but I look at this team, even with Sam and Nuge, and I don't really see a team able to compete out west. I mean, how are they suppose to deal with teams like Anaheim, LA or Sj...

They literally drafted the same player four years in a row lol.

Because Subban went after Orr then hid behind the officials while still giving him shots. Parros went in to get Subban to calm down and got dragged into it.
