Sutter + Schenn&Simmonds vs. Sutter + Richards

It's something that's been haunting me ever since Sutter turned the team around. Would it have been even better if we'd had Brayden Schenn & Stoll swapping the #2/#3 Center roles and Wayne Simmonds on the wing?

Schenn & Simmonds = OUT of Playoffs

Richards = 3 wins away from Lifting Lord Stanley's Cup

... don't let what you can't control haunt you, just be happy we're where we are, and what we maybe about to do ... plus not like Richards is a " rental " he will hopefully be a part of many more chances at cup runs for the Kings team for the next several years, I wish Schenn & Simmonds well ... but if and when we win the cup ... bye see ya kids have fun playing in front of Bryzgalov for the next 10 years

Plus it's also now ... Sutter + Schenn / Simmonds / Johnson ... versus ... Sutter + Richards / Carter / Voynov / King / Nolan ... I like that last group

I think it's time to leave that stuff in the past. The Kings seem to be doing just okay without them.

If the Kings finish this off against Jersey then I couldnt care less how successful Philly will be in the future with Schenn and Simmonds. The point is to WIN, not accumulate and hoard picks, prospects and young players. Richards wasn't himself due to that concussion earlier this year but he's been pretty damn good in the playoffs. I'd make that trade again in a heartbeat

Are Brayden and Wayne the types of players that could lead us to a 13-0 record in the playoffs so far? Because that's the only way things could be better at this point. Even then, that's kind of like having 85 million dollars instead of 84 million.

Could things really have gone any better than they have? I honestly don't see how.

lol at even thinking for a moment that the Kings would be better off with Stoll in the scoring/shutdown role that the 2nd line has

wow excellent point. I forgot that Stoll was a 2nd line center for us. When you say it like that, Richards is a gigantic difference.

Finally, a thead for tomd and Johnny Utah.

Kings are in the Stanley Cup Final and people still want Schenn and Simmonds back?

Dean traded for Richards because he wants to win a Stanley Cup. Looks like a good trade to me.

How much better could we possibly be at this point?

I, for one, like the position we are in with Richards.

I think this is an ok question to ask just so we can settle this thing finally.

All I know is if Richards doesn't set the tone in game 1, round 1, there's a good chance Vancouver wins game 1 at home.

That was a game that Brown was not the big factor in that he was in later games and series.

And maybe it's voynov that's traded instead of JJ

Plus no Richards then no Gagne and then no Carter.

If the Kings lift the cup, someone promise me they'll start yet another Richards vs Schenn/Simmonds thread. Or at least go through all the previous ones and make a best-of series of quotes.

people on this board gauge trades based on how young the players are. That's why we can win the stanley cup and people will still think that we should have kept our youth.

and ... aren't we STILL like the 2nd or 3rd youngest team in the NHL ? depending upon who's in the line-up at the time I suppose.

Well, with Simmonds outscoring Richards and Schenn growing into a second line center...

I was thinking more of Schenn using the first half of the season
acclimating to the NHL and his time under Sutter growing into a legit second line center.

For me its a matter of reading all the the stories about how Philly is happy for the Richards and Carter duo, but still happy with their trades. And a matter of having a number two center as good as Richards but cheaper, allowing us to sign someone like Parise.

Which is exactly why they aren't still in the playoffs. It's pretty easy to score when you don't have to play defense. Players can really take off on the scoresheet when they don't have to backcheck.

On a team with a GD of +32, Wayne was a -1 and Brayden a -7. Not to take anything away from Wayne's year there, but his 2nd season as a King was still his best year so far.

Brayden still has a long way to go before he's a 2nd line center.

No. The Stanley Cup is all that matters and Richards with Carter is helping us achieve that goal.
