Can't say I'm surprised. If I'm not mistaken, this will be a 35+ contract for Kuba, and he's not exactly Mr. Healthy. Last season was not the norm for him. Also, I'd guess that the Sens and Kuba were at least $1M apart in their salary negotiations.
Regardless of how people feel about him, he was a pretty steady player last year and that is a lot of minutes for someone to eat up. Will be interesting to see how Cowen and Karlsson work together. Wonder if Phillips is up to the task?
Both Boro and Weir are defenseman that play on the left side, and if management thinks that we can get 82 games in the NHL between the two of them, we really only need to sign one defenseman that can play on the right side.
Personally, Brian Lee wouldn't have been the worse option there, but that ship has sailed. Maybe we can trade for Rundblad back.
Of course a top-4 of:
isn't really awe-inspiring at all. But next year is really only year 2 of the 3 year rebuild process.
I thought he was pretty good for his age. Made some dumb boneheaded plays but overall he was a lot better then his 1st year as a Senator. He's lost his big shot from the blueline though which was one of the things that made him so feared.
