I agree with most of your post, but I'm pretty sure the bolded part is not allowed... would that count as collusion? Anyways, the NHLPA would have a problem with teams working together to limit the players choices in an earned (technically) free agency.
I don't know how/if it would work. It probably won't happen. But we'd certainly need to add something like Jensen + our 1st to get the 5th. If Burke's willing to part with it. Otherwise it's Schenn/Kadri+ a bit.
TSN insiders believe that Luongo has let it slip that he'll only play for 4-5 more years, of course he can't come out and say it publicly since that would be cap circumvention but yeah, if that's true his contract just became a whole lot better.
They also discuss a point that Oakmoose was arguing for the longest time. If at any point during his contract Luongo retires, the cap is off the books, no penalties. Of course again, Luongo can't go to management and say hey, i'm retiring in 4 years to help you guys out, but that is the general consensus between the TSN Insiders
The bit on 4-5 years was quite interesting. If true, one would think the only way he stays longer is if he's having continued success -- in which case no one would have a problem with keeping him.
Edit: It's also exactly the sort of thing you leak. "Luongo can't say this, but those close to him believe..."
Yeah, I'd say goalscoring depth was more a problem than "size" was for the Nucks in the playoffs.
Fair enough. I disagree. We have lots of goal scorers. What we need is some people who can get to the net against the Kings, Blues, Preds etc. which are all huge teams. Our GM has already said that's a priority and hence the trade for Kassian. I don't see Mac being a player that would interest the Canuck sat all.

I disagree. We need someone whose creativity and skill opens up the space for players like Higgins and Hansen to crash the net.

Good, we can't afford to lose our defensive depth.
As one of my leaf fan friends once said(yes a canuck can be friends with a leaf):
Kadri will never be good on the leafs. But put him on almost any other team and he'll be great.
There's no logical reason to agree, but I tend to agree. On the Canucks especially I see him doing well as a playmaker for Kesler and Booth. He certainly has potential, but he won't reach it on the Leafs.
