Didn't see anytihing on the main boards about this, pretty high pick to just flush down the toilet IMO. I never liked the selection or the player but it's still No. 35 overall. Perspective on this from non-Hawks fans appreciated.

big body and a pretty good point producer ... someone will pick him up in the earlier rounds for sure

I imagine Chicago must've tried to trade his rights or something as well. Seems really odd. I guess it's the players mentality?

He is no longer property of the Hawks.

You don't need to. If he's draft eligible you've "entered" the draft.

I imagine anyone interested didn't want to give anything up right now and would rather try to pick him later in the draft.

His numbers are far from impressive for a 19/20-year old playing in the OHL. He'll be a late round pick if picked at all.

any word WHY he hasn't signed with the Hawks. Was it because of the Hawks or because of Rensfeldt?

IIRC, he wasn't offered a deal. Was a story about it in Swedish papers a few days ago.

Allsvenskan is 2nd division in Sweden, so hardly a big money making league.

I understand the assumption, but it's not really true for this case. On average, probably, but with it being an open league system (with relegation and promotion), the richer 2nd division teams spend more money than some of the less spending SEL teams, from all I've heard. And Malmö pretty much is one of those rich teams, as far as I know. He'll make quite a bit more than playing in the AHL on an entry level deal, I'd have to assume.

Pretty brutal scouting here by Chicago. There were 4 2nd rounders from Brynas and Chicago managed to pick the worst one with the highest pick. How do you mess up that bad when you get to see all 4 side-by-side playing on the same team?

He played for a loaded Sarnia team... Surely he can't be that bad, I would take a flyer on him.

They were one of those teams. Linus Klasen got a HUGE deal last summer, close to $1mm per year for four seasons. Team's got finanical problems so they're going cheaper, otherwise Rensfeldt wouldn't be on their radar even I think.

Rensfeldt went about were he was supposed to in draft

His stock was rising because of his Tournament play ,, Wasn't bad pick at time

Not Hawks fault that Rensfeldt never worked to improve his game

Malmö could be trying to make a push to get into the SEL (they were relegated in 2007). They play in one of the best arenas in Sweden, it's been rather pathetic that they're stuck in Allsvenskan with such an average team for so long. The team has had financial problems, but that looks like it's been resolved now, so they could be going out and getting some big free agents.

that pick had me scratching my head at the time. don't know what they saw in this guy, he's been quite ordinary in juniors. meanwhile, they pass on talented d-men like Alex Petrovic, Jon Merrell and Justin Faulk, also good forwards like Brett Bulmer, Davante Smith-Pelly, Christian Thomas, tough Brad Ross, and a great scorer like Tyler Toffoli....
