He made a press conference about Therrien's hiring.

One of the reasons that I never really was a fan of his.

Had a meeting for a couple of hours with Bergevin in Miami and that's about it. Didn't get the job but was interested in the position. Thanks Bergevin for his honesty and calling him to give him the news that he wasn't the candidate

Just Patrick being Patrick, a PC was not needed!

Did Roy seriously call a press conference just to say this? Wow.

now, no more question. Let's talk about the LHJMQ draft this week-end. Very classy move.

So the center of the universe held a press conference even though he had nothing important to say? Isn't that a shock! He was the only talked-about candidate who had less merit than Therrien.

I think you guys are forgetting about that crazy hockey media in Quebec. How many calls do you think Roy got from reporters looking for a reaction quote? 20? 50? 100+? I suspect this was just a way to get it all out of the way so he wouldn't have to repeatedly answer questions from a barrage of homer reporters.

Some people thrive on publicity. Patrick Roy stirs up controversy wherever he goes. I appreciate what he did in 1986 and 1993 but that doesn't mean I'd like to have him as my next door neghbor or to see him on the Habs bench.

Meanwhile, we have a recycled Therrien as the head coach when Patrick Roy could and would have coached circles around him.

Roy is a players coach.
Therrien is a coach who alienates players.

Yet people still hate on Patrick Roy.

Just another day in Montreal..........

It's not hate. It just seems excessive the day after someone else got the job & likely the same day they might hand out the Stanley Cup... I get that "French" media is a bit nuts, but he also could have taken the high horse & said no?

Even if we don't win a single game til the All Star break, he won't be fired mid-season. 3 years is a long contract.

Didn't he get a 2 year contract?

Exactly, I think because he wasn't hired was just as big news as the Therrien hiring. I can't get over the hate on Roy. People have a short memory. Roy means so much to Habs fans who saw him play and to the province of Quebec, if he has an ego it's because he's the best goalie in the world.

Roy is in the middle of an important week for the QMJHL and his teams, the expansion draft was today, the trade period opens Friday and the midget draft is on Saturday. He didn't have time to answer individually to every media that called him about the coaching job in Mtl. A press conference was the best option for everybody. Stop saying it wasn't necessary because it was. There were a lot of people at his press conference, which indicates his reaction interested a lot of media.

Oh God, why did'nt they just give him a year or two, they are showing this guy way too much respect.

Honestly, I don't think you can get a guy for less than 3 years in Montreal. The problem is they make language restrictions & limit candidates to a handful, there may only be 30 coaching jobs in the NHL, but in Montreal the competition is lower! There will never be more than 2 or 3 guys who can speak French that have experience. So forget about a 2 year deal, who else is there to hire, although I think Crawford would have taken 2 years.
