Toronto Maple Leafs want to trade up for Nail Yakupov or Alex Galchenyuk says Igor

Quote:
As Larionov put it to Osadchenko, the Leafs might want to trade up for one or "both" players, although one has to be careful not to read too literally here:

"[Oilers GM Steve] Tambellini told me: 'We like him [Yakupov]. We want him. But we're going to make a decision the day before the draft'. I also know the Habs want to get one of my guys either Nail or Alex [Galchenyuk]. So do the Leafs. It is possible that the Leafs are going to trade their draft pick and get both of them. There is a possibility like that. Nail and Alex went to New Jersey for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. After this they met Leafs GM Brian Burke. Then Nail met with the Habs." (Oilers Nation)
who knows...

I just can't see this happening. Sure Burke's done it before, but so many things would have to go his way and I just don't think this tandem is as compelling as the Sedin twins were.

In my view the chances of Burke drafting both Yak and Gally are so remote, that engaging in a discussion about it seems redundant.

Seems most unlikely, given the assets we would have to give up to not only move up to 1st overall, but again to 3rd/4th.
Maybe a blockbuster 3-way between Oilers, Leafs and isles.

to leafs: 1st overall, 4th overall

to edm: Schenn, 5th overall

to isle: Gardiner

something like that maybe

remember - the discussion here isn't entirely about Burke attempting to draft BOTH Yak and Galy, but the fact that he wants to move up in the draft to get one or the other.

We all know how unlikely it will be for him to pull off a draft where we pick both.

Moving up to get Gally is a possibility most definitely. It's possible something has been worked out with the Habs already.

Yak I doubt. The cost would be too high and he doesn't fill a positional need for us to justify blowing our wad over.

So the Oilers are just going to move down out of goodwill?

If we were to get both Galchenyuk and Yakupov, it'd mean no playoffs next year.

I mean... I'm fine with building for the future with elite talent, but I don't think Burke wants to lose his job.

I agree, grigo has as much potential if not the most out of the three. IMO, Edm would want Gardiner + 5th Overall. If we can work something around Schenn+Gunnarson?

I'd think Columbus is the team to target to move up and in need at every position.

They'd want him, every team wants him, but Toronto shouldn't include him.

I'd let the ship sail on the 1st and target Columbus as our trading partner. Schenn + 5th seems a little steep and Gunnarson seems a little light. At any rate, it would be PR suicide to move Gardiner at this point.

Grigs is the guy I want, and I think there is a decent chance he will be there at 5.

I really don't see these blockbusters happening to get 2 of the top guys. The only teams I think we can do business with is the CBJ and the NYI.

For 2 and I have to think they will want 5 back plus whatever it takes move up.

For 4 its harder to say. The NYI might be willing to part with their pick for the right package and not cost us our pick. They are only a couple pieces from being a dangerous team.

The 10 million doller question is do CBJ or NYI covet a D ? If so Grigs could be sitting there waiting for us. We just have to hope one wants Forsberg and another Murry which I guess would be

EDM Yak

CBJ Forsberg (with Wies and JJ they need forwards more, especially with Nash soon to go)

MON Galy

NYI Mur ( they need the D more than anyone but EDM )

TOR Grigs

This is how I see things playing out. 1 part logic 1 part wishful thinking

This dream of mine could go out the window though if CBJ want Galy.

EDM Yak

CBJ Galy

MON Grig

NYI Forsberg

TOR SOL

Trade #1 - Gardiner or 2013 1st + Kadri or Colborne + Scrivens for EDM's 1st overall (Yak)

Trade #2 - 5th overall (CLB takes Forsberg with it) + Schenn for CLB's 2nd overall (Gally)

Leafs sign Schultz and get Luongo in a soft deal.

If schultz is coming here, Gardiner must be a factor, so I doubt he would be the one moving.

Schultz coming here could hinge on if Gardiner is taking his ice time/role (PMD)

dont see it. I mean they can both be working ala Seabrook-Keith. They also happen to be best buds, so I dont think it would be good us to move him and then sign schultz because then the chances increase for Oilers, if this "friendship" factor comes to play.

Would you rather have Yak + Gally or Schultz + Gardiner?

The latter for me. I know prospect, shiny and potential but we are essentially digging one hole while filling up another.
