If the Oilers are re-signing him to a 3 year term then that suggests to me that they believe he's done an impeccable job.

There's zero heat on him. None.

I suspect he has done exactly what was asked of him. Im not exactly overly impressed with Tambo, but I honestly dont get the hate out for him.

He came in with absolute **** to work with, and his only option was to draft as well as possible. That's been done. Where exactly do all you armchair GMs think salvation was going to come from? A pile of star players demanding trades to Edmonton?

I'm not letting this turn into a picture spam thread. If you have something to add, feel free but if you are only posting a pic, don't.

On topic, not really surprised. I am not a fan of his body of work but I can see the argument for giving him 1 more year to pull us out of the lottery. Term doesn't matter to me because the contract isn't guaranteed. Term really on matters to Katz who would have to pay him out if let go early.

I can pretty much guarantee it will be at least a 2 year deal.

2 years IMO is the preferred term.

People are irritated because the Oilers dragged it out. They effectively trolled the fanbase. Again.

There's heat on him. I think people are thinking too much into this.

We as fans already knew the Oilers would stink for 3 or 4 years. Guess what.. they did. We're now at the point where I mentioned; "the line in the sand has officially been drawn". This will be the season where all the heat will be on Tambi despite his extension. I expected this organization to continue drafting top 5 for 4 years since Magnus (who was 10th).

I would like to add that Lowe should hold more heat than he is. The Oilers are still bound by one of his wretched contracts and toook years to sift through the others.

If the Oil don't draft Yak and don't fill holes this off season via trades/UFA market, I will then be as you're now; upset. The reason being; this is the season where the Oilers MUST make the next major step forward and at least contend for a playoff spot. I expected the Oilers to finish in the bottom ten last season and they did. Let's see who he hires as the new head coach. Let's see how the off-season goes.

Perhaps Tambi got an extension due to the fact he did everything Lowe and ownership asked of him to do. Rebuilds take time and you don't make a splash until the right pieces are in place first. After this draft, this organization has that minus a few holes in Defense and goal-tending. Lets see if he makes the splash now when it's truly the right time to make one.

For me it's more about the trades Tambo hasn't made then the ones he has. Look at what Chicago gave up for Leddy, or why couldn't he have asked for Voynov or Martinez instead of Teubert back as part of the Penner deal? There's been lots of good young players move since Tambo has took over the team, and since we were in a rebuild I expected him to be in on some of them. The guy just can't seem to make the right trade for the club going forward.

Edmonton Oilers ‏@NHL_Oilers

GM Tambellini will address the media this afternoon at @RiverCreeCasino where he's on-hand for the #Oilers pro scout meetings.
The boys have decided to play some games of chance in order to help them make the tough decisions this year.

If they get double zero on the roulette wheel, they will trade Hemsky for Filatov.

Tambellini will play a few hands of holdem, waiting patiently for pocket deuces, where he will shove it all in, but not until the river, if he wins the pot, we draft Yakupov, if not, we trade the first to Toronto for Kulemin, Kadri and Komisarek, or what will be known as the kkk trade.

He will then sit at the black jack table where he will split 5's and 10's.

If he wins, we trade Gagner.

If he loses, we sign him to a five year 27.5mill deal.

I think it's funny how some of you are getting upset when we all knew 100% that this was happening. What's the big deal?

The plan was a 5-6 year rebuild, did you all think that they would fire him 3 years in?
They are going to allow him to see it through as they should, he has just been doing what he was being instructed to do. Build from within and then add pieces when the team starts competing. He hasn't made any moves that have crippled the franchise.

It would seem that Phase 1 is done based on the firing of the coach and his general comments in the media scrums so i'm assuming that he will make bigger moves to really improve the roster this offseason and if he doesn't, then i don't know what to think.

Tambo getting one year is wishful thinking. He sold a 5 year plan to Katz and probably got a 3 year deal.

I'm not actually against the resigning myself.

I like the Oilers squad. I just hope they start winning so they aren't forced to blow it up.

GMs who begin re-builds are never around to see the fruits of their so-called labour. Apparently, the Oilers are attempting to buck that trend.

Maggie the Monkey could have done his job.

Doing nothing shouldn't get you kudos and a contract extension.

Tambo hasn't shown anything to indicate he's a competent NHL GM.

i think people are not happy with Tambo because he seems like not a dynamic take charge type of GM. Maybe he is too much under the control of Lowe in which case he is only a gloried puppet.

Overall his work is a large meh. He tried to not make the big mistake rather than make the big splash. Compared to what other successful GM's a re doing his work is below par. He hasn't hurt the team too much nor has he helped in any great degree.

I still don't think he's ever really tried to make any real impact signings.
