Just an assumption.

Green - $6 million
Carlson - $4 million
Wideman - $5 million
Orlov - $1.3 million

$16.3 million on 4 everyday RD seems superfluous to me.

I really cannot envision McPhee be retarded enough to bring Wideman back. Schultz at least has a contract that could be a pain to move.

Wonder if Garrison could be a good fit with Green for around 4-4.25 per.

Radulov may be cancer in the locker room but with Semin leaving, we need another skilled forward or the Caps won't be going anywhere.

Green is 5.5 tops.

4 mil for Carlson sounds good. Carlson had one less ESP then Weber.

I wouldn't call any of Green, Carlson, Alzner, Orlov, everyday... Carlson is wanted by everyone. Alzner too. Green has shown great skill had a couple off years. Orlov is quite good.

Last time I checked Orlov had 2 years remaining on a 900k ELC. I sincerely hope we don't resign Wideman.

If we somehow manage to acquire a player like that, Hamrlik - Orlov would then be a great 3rd pairing.
While I agree that a physical, stay at home d-man would be preferable, I don't see any d-men in free agency fitting that description. I also don't see the Caps landing one via trade, since we then most likley would not have any assets left to acquire a #2C.

Carlson should get around 2.5 - 3 mill for 4 years or something similar. 4 mill is way too much right now.

And Wideman better be gone.

Green also does not deserve 6 mill

I am thinking Carlson comes in on the lower side. George can be a tough GM to deal with.

Caps hunt for a #2C

Many Caps fans, like myself have for some time now been advocating the need for a real solid #2C. With the Caps holding the 11 and the 16 overall pick in this years draft, who could possibly be available? I have added a list of a few possible candidates and their current salaries. If anyone wants to add a name to the list, feel free to do so.

The purpose of this thread is simply to try and figure out, which names that we could reasonably acquire and which of these names Caps fans would prefer in a Caps jersey.

Jordan Staal $4,000,000

Mikhail Grabovski $5,500,000

Alexander Steen $3,362,500

Patrik Berglund $2,250,000

Andy McDonald $4,700,000

T.J. Oshie $2,350,000

Joe Pavelski $4,000,000

Brandon Dubinsky $3,750,000

Travis Zajac $3,887,500

Dainius Zubrus $3,400,000

Tomas Plekanec $5,000,000

Stephen Weiss $3,100,000

Mike Ribeiro $5,000,000

Derick Brassard $3,200,000

Dave Bolland $3,375,000

Derek Roy $4,000,000

Eakin should get most serious look especially if we cheat on signing offense, Kundratek will probably be a Hershey callup, Galiev seems most talented but they're gonna bring him along slowly.

Wey doesn't strike me as anything promising and don't know much of Marshall

The only reason I listed Marshall is he had a decent season in Hershey and was the last cut for the Flyers last year.

If Suter is a no go for the Caps, Carle might not be bad signing.

Carle is like Wideman except worse at defense. Don't pay attention to stats, Wideman is a stats all star himself. Jesus dear ****ing god no. I will quit watching this team if we sign Carle and not regret it for a second.

If Suter is out, Garrison and Jackman or Kuba on a short deal would probably be my runner ups, for Green's partner, with Salvador after them. Alzner-Carlson/one of those - Green/Hamrlik-Orlov should be good enough.

That's just how it LOOKS to ME, I said that. It's an educated guess because I've read just about every piece about him in the Russian media in the last few weeks.

If he's not moved in the offseason, I don't see how Eakin isn't a Cap next year.

If he's still not ready physically it's hard to expect that he'd earn a bottom six spot unless they're running another soft third scoring line. He should have stayed put in Hershey for the year and had they anything resembling decent org. depth maybe they could have stuck by that.

Him, Galiev and Schilling probably have the best shots but I wouldn't count on any of them making it. I don't think Marshall is really an NHL factor and Kundratek is pretty well blocked on the right side. Otherwise he may be the most worthy in a limited role. Maybe they give a shiny new forward pick a shot if they really turn heads in the pre-season but that's assuming they make the pick(s) (and no lockout).

I would be surprised if Green gets more than 5.5 million. He has the offensive tools but too many games lost over the past couple of seasons due to injury.

Wideman attempted to fill a void at the time of acquisition: a short-term offensive defenseman replacement for an injured Green. Only issue with Wideman is he absolutely needs a good defensive partner to cover his mistakes. He didn't exactly have that luxury being paired with fumble feet Schultz most nights. I see Orlov most likely taking Wideman's spot.

I also believe that GMGM will package the two first rounders and make a deal happen one way or another.

Hey brah, sounds like you are describing a perfect 2C. Just surround him with skilled wingers and it will work.
